106031, Swap Question
Posted by chrisnack, Sep-05-07 11:45 AM
Ok, i searched, can't really find the answers i want. I find alot of other information in posts that isn't relavent to my question.

Basically, i just want ot know if a 2.4/anything will "bolt in", i don't care about engine management. I just need to know if it'll swap in and if i need to swap in a different tranny. As long as the engine will physically fit, and mount to the tranny or a new tranny will fit, i can get the engine running with a stand-alone, so i don't need to swap injectors/ecu/wiring or anything.

So, can anyone just tell me the simplest engine to swap into a 96 Talon N/A??? And what potential mods would be required for the engine to physically fit again, don't care about wiring/management.

Thanks for any help,
Chris

You obviously havn't searched that much then. There is LOADS of information out there.

Swapping any engine into a car is going to require a GREAT deal of work. There is no simple drop in and call it good. Engines and transmissions are generally built to fit together. Thus our transmission wouldn't work with a different engine. So if you want to go ahead. Your going to need to redo just about everything on the car and end up with a bill over $10,000.

My advice as others will agree with me. If you want more power out of an eclipse, sell it and buy a gst/gsx.

If you want more power out of an eclipse, get an older 2.4 block, pick a matching oil pump and oil pan, get some srt4 rods and pistons.......make a driver side motor mount somehow since nobody in the industry is making a swap kit.....

Do a search.

If you want more power out of your eclipse, highly look into the 2.4.

It's not all that different from a honda swap. K power in a crx for example. Some people are running K24 blocks with k20 heads in them and making a shitload of power. Our cars aren't all that different. It's just not commonplace in the 420a crowd yet.

It's not going to cost 10k to make a mighty engine to drop in a 2gnt.

Again, do a search.

Cat's out of the bag but i've been doing alot of research on the swap ever since i've found this place. Makes me feel at home a little bit comming from honda work. I'm not 100% that i want to do this yet since i'm already pulling my hair out with other things but it's definately an option. :)

Yeah, i just need a close physical fit. I can fab up the motor mount no problem.

Several people here run a 2.4L motor. it's not that complicated and can actually be run on all factory electronics.

Yeah, but some people here have cars which are possessed by evil spirits.

Even so, a simple search of this site for "2.4" by topic/subject would bring up pages of information on this subject.

- its the passenger mount that has to be fabbed.
