106017, My fully built na car
Posted by powellds, Sep-04-07 01:10 PM
Here's my list, the only thing left to do is Megasquirt, I am trying to find an AFX ecu that's not rediculously expensive. I see that we are now in the 13 second mark all motor, you are the shit Bulletdsm, I'm right behind you though...

Top end parts:
Stock valves
3angle valve job
port and polish
crower valve springs and ret. kit
SBI rockers
BLE solid lashers
Fel Pro valve seals
ARP headstuds
Fidanza cam gears
Crower 2 cams
55mm throttle body

Bottom end:
.020 bore
Wiseco 10.5:1
Eagle rods
Clevitte rod bearings
King main bearings
Melling High volume oil pump (part M090)
AFX UDP

Intake, exhaust, etc:
Screamin Demon coil
OBX intake manifold(did the same damn thing bulletdsm did. I saw his write up and about died)
OEM injectors
2.25 catback exhaust Magnaflow
DC sports 4-2-1 Header
Full prothane motor mounts
Spec stage 4 clutch
AEM cold air intake
I am sure I forgot some stuff, but that's the meat and potatos. Should be up and going in a week or two. I am hoping to make it to the track on the 10th of october, but I am not sure becuase the motor might not be broken in by then. I am also going to see if the 60mm tb makes a difference or not at the track along with a aem v2. I will keep you all informed.

never heard of after market rockers for the 420a engines........ or running solid adjusters with hydro cams.......... ur gonna need a little more to catch mark though i think........ unless ur car is an all out beer can. (dont know how much weight reduction mark's has), but good luck.

SBI rockers are basically the same as the Turbo PT rockers.

No. Spec makes horrible clutchs.

I've heard SBC (South Bend Clutchs) make very good clutchs. Give them a call.

Dont you think a stage 4 clutch is a little much?

Car drove perfectly fine with it in it. Spec isn't all that bad.

Just most :order

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Set-up looks good. I'm leary and curious about the solids. Had friends try them in their 4g63's with terrible results. I'm kinda under the thinking that we don't really need them for our engines because as we get up into the "big boy" rpms, I'm thinking that our lifters effectively act as solids. Just IMO.

We both know what you are missing. Maybe I'll land that other one. I'm working on it. But that stock ECU is just looking to beat you down.

I'm guessing that you'll want the 60mm on the track. It'll give you a higher trap. But I'm curious also to see the difference on the same set-up. I've wanted to do it, just haven't found the time (go figger).

Good luck with the set-up and I'm definitely rooting for you.

Like bullet said, its most Spec cluthcs. Sure I imagine a few people have boughten them and they have worked wonderfully. But I think the majority of people have bad luck with them, myself included. Not even the stage 4, just Spec in general. I'd strongly encourage you to try and find something else.

I will deal with that clutch if it craps out on me. Also, I have been told that the hydraulic lifters in our cars start to collapse in high rpm. I am not sure if this is true or not, but the installation of the solids look like a pain in the @$$. Also, I don't want to have to be adjusting them constantly. Might go back to the SBI's I have laying around here.

Yeah, I'm running the PT cruiser drive train right now. Just a little lighter than ours.

QFT. The one and ONLY reason I have not gone solid in my cougar.

Is your DSM and BULLET both MTX or Auto. Thats awesome if your trannys are AUTO.

I think anyone NA-NT or turbo could reach that 13 sec. with the Right setup and Tuned right.

Its more about who and how the person drives it too.

They're MTX (Bullett is anyway). And yes, anything's possible, but what's Mark's (bullett) trying to show is that it's possible for about the same budget as building a turbo kit. Many people used to say they only way to go quick was to go turbo. Everyone called BS when I went in the 15.2's, but here Mark's 1.5 seconds faster proving that you can do it NA.

He did lots of tuning, though, and is clearly a very good driver.

Mine is a MTX, and yes, it does really come down to the tuning and the ability to drive. Anyone can build an engine, but how it's tuned and driven is what defines the performance of it. I just got back from the track tonight running my 05 dodge srt4 and pulled a 13.6 @ 103mph and was thinking, damn, there's an all motor eclipse that would have been right on my ass, that is the awesome. I can't wait until mine's done.

Excellent thread! Keep at it, man. Turbo cars are a blast, but there's nothing that can compare to big numbers coming out of a small engine all by itself. Keep pushing forward!

As for the stock ECU, I hate it. Dumb as paint. If you're looking for an AFX/R ECU, I think Casbon might still have my old one up for sale. Hit him up and see if he's still got it. Really makes a difference and wakes things up at this build level.

I am trying to find the AFX race ecu as we speak, hopefully I can find one for around $250, I bought some crower 2's from someone and they said they were brand new, turns out that they are junk. Yay. :(

Why run the AFX ECU why not just run spark on the MSNS?

Precisely. You're not gonna need the AFX ECU if you plan to run MSNS. MSNS will handle all of your tuning.

I was trying to sell my ECU awhile back, but I think I'm going to hold on to it for now as my plans to do anything with the car are still on the backburner...ugh.

I'm guessing for speed and ease. For us 97 guys, the plug and play AFX ECU is the next best thing to the MSnS.

Exactly, MSNS is my winter project.
