I was wondering if the OBX intake manifold was gasket matched, would it flow just as good as a stock intake manifold?? Or am I just better off porting a stocker. I have an OBX one I can port right now, but didn't want to waste the time if the stock one is better. I couldn't imagine them being any better if they were both gasket matched. Anyway, let me hear your comments on it.

I read A LOT of bad things about OBX mainfolds...i would hit up the search button before you proceed. Of course, every person's experience with it is different, but I'm just saying searching on it would be your best bet.

All you can do is gasket match the OBX, you cannot port it. If you try to port the runners they will be too thin and break leavign your a$$ sitting in some redneck gas station where an inbred hillbilly like Mike admires how pretty of a mouth you have...:)

Its a toss up. No one here has actually flow benched an OBX to compare it to a flow benched ported stocker.

If your thinking of porting a stocker yourself then i would say go with the OBX. Porting for performance is best left to someone with a flow bench to verify results.

Well, I have someone who is going to port a stocker completely for me. But, I only have an OBX intake manifold at this time. It looks like the OBX would flow rather well because the runners are about the same size as the stock one, and if you port match the OBX, it should flow okay. Any other comments?? By the way, I aint no hillbilly.

Portmatch the obx.

It will take alot less time than a full port and polish on the stock manifold. Save that job for a really rainy day.

Stock vs obx, i'd put money on the obx flowing better. Ported? Who knows?

I spent 3 weeks in Alliance this spring...not quite planet kentucky material but head south and it makes ya wonder

It's been said before but the Obx intake sucks, the design is all wrong. The plenum is far to big for a N/A motor and the runner length puts the torque curve peaking at about 3300 rpm's if you use the third wave. If you knock 2 inchs out of the runners, cut the plenum off, and velocity stack the biotch you should see peak torque at about 4800 rpms on a boosted motor. And the cross-sectional area of the runners should be Good for about 400 Hp at the crank worth of air flow. I haven't benched one yet, but theres one sittin in the corner of my shed that I found for $50 on ebay a while back. And I'm gonna experiment with it this winter to see if the above determined by formulas and calculatoins is true.

All in all, I would say have a shop grind out the injector humps in the runners and gasket match the stocker if your gonna be using stock cams. otherwise sell the obx one and save up for a venom.

JeffO, you're a couple weeks early for me. I dynoed the new set-up (12.5 to 1 with Crower 3's) on my ported and matched stock intake. I made basically the same power (same peak rpm) as with my previous set-up (10.9 to 1 and crower 2's). Both set-ups were NOT knock limited. All indications are that the air flow (i.e. intake/exhaust) is just not there. I bought an OBX to try to get me by for the Shoot Out (ended up getting it on the day after the Shoot Out). It's a piece of crap that I worked on for about 3 hours to grind and smooth out the flow. Port match will not be your problem (except for TB). Plenum size, flange to runner match and plenum to runner match will be your problem. I was hoping with the runners being a tiny bit shorter and the interior being smoother than I could make the stocker, that maybe this would give me a little until I see the "good" manifold I got coming.

But I am hoping to get her to a dyno (with the other intake) before Mitsu day at E-town on the sept. 22. If that all happens is up to a lot of crap as always.

I would lay money on the stocker extrude honed, over a port matched OBX anyday, the OBX looks great but lacks in several areas, especially the design. If you looking for a nice shiny part under the hood go obx, if you want performance stay stock and port it..
