OK, I gotta type this quick because the wife decided that the week before the SO would be a good time to go to the beach on vacation x(


Yup, pretty much the same numbers as the 10.9 with Crower 2's AND still not knock limited. What does that tell us? You guessed it, I hit a brick wall on flow. Gotta get a different intake to start with and then work from there. I could try to work the old intake more, but I never really felt it was a great design. Interesting in that I now believe that I left some power on table with the 10.9 set-up.

So for the Shoot Out, I will basically have the same power as before. I am trying to get an OBX on in time, but with the VACATION (thanks honey), I don't know if I will find time. I do have one on the way though.

Well, would love to discuss this more but I gotta head down. Don't know when I'll be back on. But I'll see you guys at the SO.

Oh man. You're on the cusp of being the first person to put 200 to the wheels NA and on stock displacement, Mark. That will be AWESOME. Represent at the SO!

wow, almost no difference? sounds like our engines have some serious flow impedances while NA. can't wait to see what you figure out!

If it helps flow NA then you know it will help boosted. Sounds like we will finally find out if the OBX manifold really does any good hunh? Cant wait to find out what you have in store!

I was told the obx mani splits at the welds. true? untrue? I think they look nice.

I appreciate the words of support Bri. As you know with anything like this, it's two steps forward one step back. I've been pretty fortunate in that I have had a lot of forward steps and no too many in reverse.

This engine build has been fighting me for some reason. Just various little bullshit things to slow me down. So this is just one more thing to work on. I'm actually kinda happy it happened like this (except for the co$t side of this) because it allows us to see the limits of flow (IF my assumptions are correct ;-) ). We can also see how much an intake can affect our engines.

Yeah, it could be the head, valves, exhaust (all part of the flow path), but I am highly suspicious of our intake design anyway (for making high flow NA power). I'm 99% on the intake. And, of course, as slo2g points out, if I get an intake made that works, we'll have an easier path to stuff the air through on turbo. Now who wants to make the LTH?

PLEASE don't take this as support for the OBX, far from it. I know I'm going to have to work to get it to fit properly (I'm fortunate in that I don't need the map). I'm fully aware that the thing will crack relatively quickly. It's just being used as a POSSIBLE band aid.

But then wouldn't it really suck if it was something goofy like a couple of collapsed lifters or something :order (nah, it's not that).

So am I, but now you're into Catch-22 territory, MB. Your engine is built beyond what most 2GNT owners have done. Undoubtedly, you're running into issues which are uncommon due to nobody else doing what you're doing with that thing. The turbo guys have experienced some reversion issues with the manifold, but their symptoms occur at much higher power levels because they are pressurizing the stock manifold. Being all motor, you don't get the benefit of a pump forcing the air beyond those restrictions.

It will be extremely interesting to see - once and for all - what the OBX IM is good for with solid, before and after dyno sheets. You've already got your before, so the after is right around the corner and I'm eager to hear the results. Especially on a built engine. I've always suspected that it *might* offer a minimal benefit to the turbo owners, but that the cost far outweighs that benefit, and that it's especially useless for the NA guys. Maybe I'll soon be eating crow, eh?

Personally, I'm torn. I've put about 8hrs into Daisy trying to clear out CEL codes so I might be able to finally get her into a nice Arizona license plate, but I'll be damned if I'm not getting a cylinder 3 misfire (likely HG after almost 2yrs) and the dreaded 31 for evap leak. I'll probably be ripping the head off the Galant this coming Tuesday when I'm off work and seeing about just re-ringing it and parking Daisy again.

At the same time. I really, REALLY want to do this to Daisy.



Set that atop our lower manifold in the rear of the bay with a set of nice velocity stacks like Mike did. Given the shorter runners, it could be possible to hog them out up at the TBs and then taper them down to the ports to - theoretically - turn each runner into a full-length velocity stack. Then I'd give the inlets some black socks and set a WRX scoop on the hood. Man, would that be a great conversation starter. It's just too perfect for an all motor car.

Of course, the boost bug bit me almost seven years ago and it's getting harder and harder to fight it every day. Who knows. I've got to keep my pending mods to myself lest deej smack me around a bit.

I've alluded to the fact that I have a design for the ITB's on our cars. You have just described my exact concept :cheers You SOB!

I'm also going with a combined vac box for the ITB's.

Yeah, I will be curious as to what the OBX can do. As for Daisy, sit in her, put her in neutral, and have a couple of buddies push you down the road. THAT will answer your question :thumbsup

at this point if you want to beat the 200 barrier you need some radical mods

ITB could be good if matched with a long tube header + no cat and a really free flowing exhaust line
for minimal gain also a clipped water pump and windage tray

I remember your clipped water pump. Mark, I have to agree with Alain on this one, I think its time for a true LTH to get it to the 200 mark.

Well got her in the mail yesterday (thanks, Nightfall). Unfortunately, with the time frame and the vaca, I can't make it happen. I could get it on, but no way I could dyno tune with the time that I have. Though a quick street tune would be nice, I can't take the chance at this point.

The funny thing is, NO fitment issues! I tried everything but the fuel rail and no grinding etc. Hehe, yeah, go figger.
