105453, NO START! I NEED SOME HELP GUYS! Posted by DSMTalon, Aug-03-07 07:22 PM
ok this is very strange and its starting to piss me off. i have turbo'd my car recently and had nothing but hell with it since. i havent even got to drive it a mile! anyway the one time i did get to drive it it started to get hot on me, so i shut it off and just coasted back to the shop where im working on my car. got it back, let it cool down some and then re-started it. no problem right? well the next day i went to go start it again and move it out of the shop and all she does is crank and crank. so i cranked on her for a few more seconds and then all of a sudden she loaded up bad with fuel and backfired out the tailpipe. i checked for spark, and i get a very intermittent spark, that seems to occur mostly when i first start cranking. same thing with injector pulse. i checked the #1 cyl for pulse, and it pulses once when i first crank it. but it must be getting fuel from somewhere otherwise it wouldnt backfire. i replaced the crank and cam sensors, and the ASD relay seems to be working normally. i had recently redone the timing on it and so that isnt a question in my mind that its off..i know the cams line up perfect and the crank is on. when i do the keydance i get the following codes:12,14,42. i did check for voltage at the cam sensor, and i have a good ground, and 5.01V and 8.44 volts on the other two wires. i even tried swapping the PCM with another unit i have and still nothing! HELP ME OUT GUYS! I need to get this thing running before the 20th when i have to go back to college.
heres a link to my other post that chronicles my BS turbo experience.

one thing i forgot to mention is that i have zero tach in the dash. this made me think that i needed a crank sensor, but replacing it didnt change anything...
plus i noticed my link didn't show up...my bad

edit: i checked out the crank sensor wires and i have a good ground and a good 5v & 9v reference. but still no spark to the coil or anything. i do have power to the middle wire on the coil.

well damn.. i look like an idiot now. lol. well my timing was off. i moticed that while cranking the engine the timing belt between the cams was bouncing up and down..so i tried moving it with my fingers, and the damn belt moved about 4 teeth back into each gear, indicating some serious slack! THATS SOME SCARY SHIT! anyway i put her up on TDC, and the exhaust cam had jumped time by about 3 teeth. thats what i get for getting in a hurry and not following the timing procedure to the t. so i retimed it, following the procedure down to the last dot, and she started! yay for me.

Were you able to slide the pin for the tensioner in and out easily? If not it isn't tensioned properly.

yeah i got it figured out the second time. the first time i was just too excited and got in a rush and i didnt pull the 28 ft-lbs on the tensioner pulley. i just jammed it up with my fingers and a prybar and tightened the sucker down. lol my dumbass mistake. stepping over dollars to save pennies. anyway this last time around i followed the procedure exactly as it said and it all seems cherry. i drove the car for a bit before it overheated and it seemed ok. ill double check it in the morning and see if anything changed on it. maybe my tensioner is bad.
