Hey everyone, in about a year or so, ill be done school and will have the time to turbo my 1997 talon, but until then i dont have the time to do anything that would require my car to be undriveable for a few days. So right now i want to add some more power, without buying anything that i will have to replace when i turbo it. So what are a few mods that i could get and not have to worry about replacing them come next summer? Im looking for more acceleration mostly.

All i can think of is tires that grip better, a short shifter, shift kit and a 2.5" exhaust. You could upgrade the coil, plugs and wires if you wish. You can add an intake if you want. If you ever get cheap, you could always weld a bov flange to it to use it for your turbo system.

That's about all i can think of. No point in buying a header since it's going bye-bye when you turbo.

You want acceleration..Go this route.

Cold AIR intake
doesn't really matter to much but AEM CAI V2 is one of the best I have it and I love it.

Underdrive Pully
There are various makers of this not sure your financial status since your still in school but AEM makes these also.

You can take a Turbo Eclipse Muffler and weld that baby out back and that's a good cheap mod right there...Our 2gnt muffler is much more restrictive than the turbo model.

You can also by a 60MM Throttle body, these I'm really not sure if they have been dyno proven but it's an interesting mod you can do for cheap.

buy a nice full exhaust setup, 4-2-1 header, high flow cat, nice cat back, you will notice a nice gain, also get a nice cold air intake, and a under drive pulley, you can do all this for under $500 and you will free up some nice HP.

Point blank, the cheapest thing that you can do to make the biggest difference is nitrous. Other than that I would get a 3" cat back, highflow(strait pipe) cat, underdrive pulley, ebay intake, and start saving for turbo.

- Underdrive pulley

- Throttle Body

- Port and polish intake manifold (i still have my stock one ill send you for cheap)

- Exhaust

- CAI (even though you will replace it, they are cheap enough and you can always resell it when your done for some of your money back)

P.S. A header is a waste of time and money, if you are going to replace it with a turbo-mani anyways.

I have been wanting to go turbo for over 4 years now but i neither have the time to do it. I just faced the music and modded everything i could a couple years back because i knew it wasnt happening anytime soon, and ill be honest im pretty happy with my car right now. When i get to about 150K miles im going to swap out the motor/trans and boost her but until then my bolt-ons keep me satisfied. You can see a list of my mods in my sig.

Thanks alot for the input so far, i got a CAI for free from a friend, but the filter is in rough shape so ill be replacing that. IM not going to run spray, it scares me haha. What cars could i get a 60mm TB off of that would bolt right on?

Run a search for the Jeep TB mod. Also, the stock intake manifold will be a choke point whenever you go with the bigger TB. I think it is a 53mm bore stock. You also can't bore the manifold out more than 55 or 56mm. Unless you weld material to the intake.

you can, however, port match the stock intake with the stock throttle body to 55mm. There was a reputable guy on ebay that used to do it.... or maybe that was conceptillisions.... hmmm?

I bought the AFX 55mm TB from howell a LONG time ago, and then just bought a port and polished 55mm stock intake mani off of a member here. There was a considerable difference in throttle response as well as increased pull across the entire RPM range... i definitely recommend this as an upgrade. And whats good about it is that you dont have to replace it when your go turbo! :)

Spray is not dangerous! I have mine on a 75 shot pill of nitrous and a 35 shot pill for fuel and I am running a 13.5 a/f ration at 3500 rpms, at redline the factory ecu pulls timing and I get a 10.1 a/f ratio. Nitrous got a bad name back in the day when people where running dry shots and only injected nitrous. Now its the future and we have wet kits. To each his own, some people think its cheating, I think its just another type of induction. If it gets me down the line faster then who cares right. I would get an Modern Performance 60mm throttle body, replace the filter on your intake, port match the tb to an intake manifold, high flow cat, exhaust. If you want to turbo down the line you have a good foundation of parts that you will reuse.

Your not gonna get the intake to 60mm though. You could get one of those venom or obx intakes but dont expect it to fit right.
