105308, Crower 2's idle problem Posted by 97AllMtr, Jul-20-07 02:20 PM
If I have crower 2's on my newly built engine, how can I fix the idle problem with the computer not being able to handle the cams?? Would the best route be an safc?? Anyone who knows how to cure the "pig rich idle" please help. Thanks.

it should all be running right, are you using the stock fuel system, what else are you running?

The only way to "fix" the rich condition with the C2s is through an SAFC or MS install. For the money (and if you want to really get anything out of that engine), you're going to want the MS.
SAFC will let you lean out your idle, but that's about all it's good for, imo. MS, on the other hand, will allow you to truly tune the car and eventually step up to ignition control to wind the engine out beyond factory redline, where it's going to still want to make power.
Stock ECU is going to dull the shit out of your weapon shortly after you pass 5000rpm because it will start seeing things it doesn't like. (Actual power, perhaps.) With the AFX/R ECU in my car back in the day, she was still pulling at 7800rpm. MSnS will give you the ability to tune the fuel and ignition in order to realize the full potential of your new engine.
In the meantime, the good news is, your stock ECU should have no trouble handling those cams. I've been running completely untuned for a couple years, now, and she does just fine. If you've only recently re-connected the battery, expect to flood-out when you first start the car or when you're backing out of a parking space for a few days. Anticipate it and it won't happen so much. As the ECU relearns its short- and long-term fuel trims, you will find the stalling becomes less and less frequent.
Without any fuel/ignition tuning on the car, power is a bit less than stock until about 3000rpm, when things start to wake up. Somewhere between 3000-4000rpm, it's *almost* like VTEC, in that the C2s come alive and the exhaust starts wailing. It's a good time.
Have fun with that car and keep us posted on your progress. :thumbsup
