104999, Here i come 2.4
Posted by Slimyjr., Jun-30-07 11:45 AM
So, it pored the other day and since i don't happen to have a bypass vavle, i got a ton of water in my engine(yes i pushed in the clutch, but what am i supposed to do when 1 mile of road has 2in. of water :shrug ) So a bunch of vavles are bent and i decided to do a 2.4 swap. I know, i could just replace the head or get it fixed but i want to see if i can get 240hp with the 2.4. Possible? i guess i'll find out.

Just a q, where is your filter for your cia sitting?

You know what, i think i'm going to do a little some-something that will draw cold air into the intake without the risk of hydro-lock. All i need is a doobie and about 60 seconds looking at my car with the hood popped and i should have it figured out.

Good luck with the 2.4 swap.

Nothing new but I moved my CAI to the top and cut an intake out of the hump in the hood. Moving the intake to this position enhances the drivers experience because you can hear the intake and the turbo more from the drivers seat. You will need to relocate your battery to achieve this task.

i'm moving the batt to the back. But the CAI filter is by the drivers side foglight hole?

I think its possible, I think I remeber someone talking about a little more than 200 whp with the 2.4l n/a a while back. Good luck to you.

3 words: Rotations per minute

the best way to make more power NA is to give yourself more usable RPM's. the 2.4 actually has a lower redline because of the extra mass the rotating assembly has. you'll need to balance the hell out of that engine. match porting the head will be a must as well to flow that kind of air.

I hear the 2.4 with a turbo actually spools quite nicely as compared to the 2.0

Actually it's because of the rod ratio due to the added stroke versus a 2.0L.

I was close, but thanks for the clarification

hp = (torque x rpm)/5252

the 2.4 can make the torque :thumbsup
you need to make it do the rpm

several extreme neons are in the 230+ whp NA :eek

So far all i'm planning is...

-porting head
-porting TB or jeep TB
-porting Intake mani.
-headers
-cat-back exhaust
-CAI intake (with bypass valve!)
-remove balance shaft
-get engine balanced
-UDP
-no power steering or A/C
-run with S-AFC

thats all i can think of so far.

with those basic mods there's no need for S-AFC unless you are addicted to blue display
and don't expect more than 170 at the crank

have it done by someone who knows what they're doing
-porting TB or jeep TB
get the 60mm from howell or modernperformance, jeep tb isn't worth the hassle
-porting Intake mani.
same as the ported head - scrap the upper plenum and run the fast fabs plenum with a phenolic spacer
-headers
have to be modified to work properly
-cat-back exhaust
good idea
-CAI intake (with bypass valve!)
only need the bypass valve in winter time
-remove balance shaft
plug the oil suction holes properly
-get engine balanced
might as well rebuild if your doing this
-UDP -no power steering or A/C
personal preference
-run with S-AFC
as far as i've heard the safc is laim
-thats all i can think of so far.
the oil pan will be fun
you should run a crankscraper and a baffling setup in the oil pan
cam gear timing - make sure you mark them properly
i would upgrade the fuel pump and run properly sized injectors

read - read - and read some more... good luck to you

240whp Naturally Aspirated is possible, sure.

but, why would you go all out for 240hp... when you can do 350-400 just as easily??
