104891, Finally did a compression test... Posted by Slimyjr., Jun-22-07 02:48 PM
Here's my numbers:
Cyl. 1 210psi. Cyl. 2 210psi. Cyl. 3 220psi. Cyl. 4 220psi.
I can now sleep at night :)
Definitely helps me decide if i can do nitrous and turbo.

good numbers, always nice to see when things are going right

Not bad numbers at all. I think when I did my compression test about a year ago, they were around 190 on all four.

im the only one that got 160s, and 150s on a compresion test. lol, but that is good!

210-220's must be low altitude.
barza, did you have the engine fully warmed up and the throttle valve fully open? that sounds a bit on the weak side.

I need to redo mine with the engine a lil warmer. But Im scared of breaking anything else while its just warming up. My piece-o-junk is definety not sounding happy. On the previous "semi-warm" comp. test i got 190 to high 180 across all four. Just another excuse to rebuild i guess.

yea, the engine was kinda warm, and i did it at WOT, and i still got those #s, i will try it again, but that is just another reason to rebuil!!! you know what i think some times, i know its silly, but i think i have low comp piston!! hahahahahahaha

Barza I think I got around the same numbers as you and I'm running low comp JE's at 8.8:1
At least for cylinders 1 and 2. 3 and 4 were sitting around 130, time for a new head gasket!

/\/\/\ that sounds about right for your comp. ratio, 130 is still low unless you have an old gm :bash

Hey didn't want to make a whole new thread but I just redid a compresion test a few minutes ago. I got:
Test 1: Cyl 1: 190 Cyl 2: 200 Cyl 3: 200 Cyl 4: 200
Test 2: Cyl 1: 200 Cyl 2: 200 Cyl 3: 200 Cyl 4: 200
I had gotten lower numbers on the previous two test but I don't think I had the car warm up enough. I have crazy loss in power. Weird thing is now I DID notice small amounts of white fumes from my tail pipe, not continuous but puffs. ALTHOUGH, today I noticed there is a knocking sound coming from the bell housing of the tranny. Mind you, this was all with the car sitting at idle, because I don't dare drive it, then get stuck having to pay for a tow back. Once again there is very small but numerous amounts of bubbles rising from the radiator coolant, and the level at the neck keeps rising and falling. Now im seriously confused. I was certain it was a blown HG, but now with the new compression numbers and the sound from the tranny I'm not sure. The head I bought from Deej should be arriving any day now, so Im still going to replace that. The car does almost have 160k, so I was already thinking about rebuilding the tranny. Im baffled.

could be a very small leak that only works in vacuum, not compression ed. As far as the noise in your bellhousing :shrug

Both things are getting overhauled so it isn't really a problem. I just want to get back to work so I can get my car back again.
