10489, Another question about the 60K mile thing...

Alright, I got a quote from the local mitsu. It was 660 for everything, timing belt, inspection, some other parts I forgot. I was thinking, would I be able to save a lot more if I just asked Mitsu to do just the timing belt and the fuel filter? And if I only did that, would I be risking my car, since there might be other things that need to be replaced? I know the timing belt is the major thing though, so I might bypass the others. Would also get some new plug wires, plugs and air filter from any local carparts store. Anything else I might be missing? Thanks for the info guys.

hey, yah, i just hit the 60k mark and i'm wondering about the same things you are. i was plannin on getting all the parts and taking them to a local mechanic. here is my list
timing belt: $75 (according to someone here)
tensioner: $100
idlerpulley: $20
waterpump: ?
af/x upd: $150
plug wires: ?
feul filter: ?

i don't know how much labor will cost but i'm hoping my car will drive like new after that.

Hey, where u at Kriot? Maybe if u were in Cali, maybe we could go and search for a cheap mechanic that would do this for us. :-) Do we really need the waterpump, idler pulley and tensioner? What would happen if we don't change them and if they broke? I just planned on the timing belt and fuel filter. Maybe do this at the local mitsu, and have them put the UDP while they're at it. I think I could do the plugs, wires and air filter.

Well, anyone else who could help us out here?

Uh, never mind. I'm in Socal, so its gonna be a drive for both of us if we wanted to meet up somewhere. Thanks for the offer though. Good luck with finding someone cheap who would do it for ya. Merry Christmas btw.
