104687, Fuel pump and Idling problems
Posted by BoostedEclipse, Jun-09-07 08:43 AM
So I just got done dropping my engine back in. I hooked everything up put the fluids in,etc. I went to try to crank it and when I turn the key to "on" the Walbro fuel pump doesnt whine like it use too. It sounds more like when you gargle with mouth wash. But, I didn't notice this when I tried to crank the car the first couple of times and it still cranked and idled. But, it idles like at 3k rpms and sounds like i'm about to punch it from a dig. Anyways, I've searched around on here and from what I came up with i think the idling might have to do with the tps and iac sensors but im not sure. The fuel pump problem stumped me though b/c I just replaced the relay for it. And a couple days before I attempted to crank it, i installed my gauges and would turn the key to on to check to see if the gauges would turn on. When I would do this i distinctly remember the fuel pump priming. Anyways, does anyone know what exactly my fuel and idling problem might be??? I've got some ideas on what it could be but would like to know if anyone has had this problem before.

Fuel pump won't prime:
-fuel pump relay?
-Fuel filter?
-Bad ecu?

Idle @ 3k rpms:
-tps sensor?
-iac sensor?

hopefully someone can help!

I tried it again after playing with a few things on my car and it happened again. This time the fuel pump either 1)didn't prime at all. 2)Sounded like it gargled with mouthwash. 3) Primed like normal. I have no freaking idea what the problem is here but something isn't right.

When it did prime right i tried cranking the car. When it would crank it automatically goes from anywhere to 3,000 rms to 5,000 rpms. It surges back and forth. I checked my vaccum gauge and it only has me pulling 2 or 3 hg's. I have all my vaccum lines connected for sure. Oddly enough though when it does the crazy idling the bov is blowing off. I hope someone can please help. I need to figure this out so I can get my daily driver back!!!

I just checked my tps and ect sensors and both checked out fine. I'm starting to think that it has to be a vacuum leak somewhere but not sure where. Tomorrow I will go over the whole engine and make sure everything is right. As far as the fuel pump not priming, I think I might start with the fuel filter and maybe the relay. I also have gas in the car thats been there a little while, so maybe something in it clogged the fuel filter???? Anyways, still would like a few opinions.

Yeah I just put in a high flow fuel pump and I hear a whine is that normal or no. Any help would be great
