104644, Car dies randomly Posted by JSquier95, Jun-06-07 07:31 AM
Hey, I'm newbie here, but I have browsed the boards periodically.
I am having some problems. My car dies randomly while I'm driving, stopped, cold, hot...doesn't matter. Sometimes it will do it while I'm driving making me turn the key off and start it again. Other times being a manual, it will more or less start it self back up. It will also just blip off...I will see the battery light flash on and the tach might jump down for a split second. I've replaced the fuel pump three times, changed out the O2 sensors and ECM. If it helps any, when it blips off, I will loose my A/C for a bit until it starts to cool back off. I'm not sure f this is electrical or fuel related, but being that it effects the a/c, I'm leaning towards electrical.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I've been dealing with this problem for awhile now and I'm about rdy to sell it because of it. BTW, I just heard today that someone a friend knows is having the same problem in his 98.

I don't know much about the 2GNT or cars in general, but the way it sounds my best guess would be to check all wiring and make sure there are no nicks in them that might cause a short. Since it affects the A/C, my thoughts tend to learn towards the fact that there might be a short within your A/C compressor or the wiring to/from it.
how many miles on the engine? it might be time for a new compressor...
Like I said the other guys here would know more about it than me, but that would be a place to start I presume.

I actually changed the compressor about a year ago, but I'm not sure if it's really related honestly...might be, but who knows.
The motor is original and it burns oil and needs to be rebuilt, but I really don't think it's compression related. I did a compression test a little while ago and all cylinders were within specs.

If you changed the a/c compressor not too long ago I'm not sure what to say other than maybe a wiring flaw. We'll see what the other guys here have to think about this issue.
