104355, broken downstream o2 sensor Posted by Hedge, May-22-07 01:42 PM
Hey everyone, well i decided to have a look at the exhaust system today on my 95 talon and it seems like the previous owner cut the downstream o2 sensor wire in half. about halfway throught the metal housing of the wires there a clean cut that goes side ways and looks like both wires were striped. Why would anyone do this? so now i have to find a new one. but i want to know if any one would have an idea why anyone would do this? IT deffinatly looks like it was cut on purpose. Also how much would a new one cost?

universal ones are about $75 at any parts monkey, oe style are a bit pricier but you don't have to splice them together. don't know why someone would cut them. might have been the odd piece of sharp metal on the road that flew up, unlikely but I've seen stranger. Do you have a CEL from the cut sensor?

I havnt done a check yet, but i know that the CEL is flashing, but the car is being built because i need to do the head gasket, also there isnt a rad so i havnt bothered to do a scan yet. I know on my neon that there is a trick where you turn the key on and off three times tha you can find out what codes are coming up. I dont know if this would work on this, i need new battery terminals so i cant check at the moment.

Flashing CEL means a misfire on one of the cylinders.

Well it flashes when i dont start the car, because i dont want to start it with a bad headgasket and no rad.

oh, just replace it, probably someone went to replace it and gave up.

Yea. If only one of the wires is cut then it was probably the previous owner having a O2 sensor hooked up. You can re solder the wire, or just buy a new one. If it is the downstream like you said, after the CAT CON, then it doesnt affect how the engine runs, merely the emissions.
