A Friends 2.0L sohc eng8ine shut down on her while driving to Michigan. She asked me to ask you guys.

She said there was a grril sound then the enigne shut down, on her.
Her, husband changed the water pump and timing belt, but it still won't turn over, they both don't know what it could it be.

Nope, and nope. He's thinking its the coilpack, he changed the timing belt and water pump. There's no spark whatsoever, his car is 2000 model, would these go out in this year, he hasn't the car for along but the engine odom has already turned 200,000 miles. :(

See if alternator and batt. are good.

Probably the typical cam/crank sensor or ASD relay. Since it shut down while driving I would go with the sensors being the problem

Thanks guys, this helps him out alot. He's been stressing over this, for awhile.

Would a 95 Mtx Tranny, fit in a 97 Gs.

crap, my friend said its neither senosrs or alternator. He insists its the coilpack, its not getting any park at all.

check for voltage on the coilpack. (from the center pin to ground I believe)
But IMO coilpacks very rarely go bad.

I thought you said no fuel also

Yup, no fuel also. this is my step dads car. Could he use a Volt Multimeter to test it. How could he test it,

Coil one fires cylinders 1 and 4, coil two fires cylinders 2 and 3. Each coil tower is labeled with the number of the corresponding cylinder.



Primary Coil Resistance Test

Unplug the electrical connector from the ignition coil pack.

Measure the primary resistance of each coil. At the coil, connect an ohmmeter between the B+ pin and the pin corresponding to the cylinders in question.

The resistance on the primary side of each coil should be 0.45-0.65 ohms. Replace the coil if not within specifications.

Secondary Coil Resistance Test

See Figure 1

Disconnect the spark plug wires from the secondary towers of the ignition coil.

Use an ohmmeter to measure the secondary resistance of the coil between towers 1 and 4, then between towers 2 and 3.

The secondary resistance should be 11,000-14,000 ohms. If resistance is not within specifications, the coil must be replaced.



REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Disengage the electrical connector from the ignition coil pack.

Label and disconnect the spark plug wires from each of the coil pack towers.

Remove the coil pack mounting fasteners.

Remove the coil pack from the vehicle. If equipped, remove the coil pack from the mounting bracket.

To install:

Place the coil pack into position on top of the engine valve cover, or mounting bracket, if equipped.

Install and tighten the coil pack mounting fasteners to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).

Plug in the electrical connector to the ignition coil pack.

Connect each spark plug wire to each corresponding coil pack tower. The coil pack towers are numbered with the correct cylinder identification. Be sure that the spark plug wires snap firmly onto each coil tower.

Connect the negative battery cable.

Thanks,is very informative big help. Man, he told me he did this test to the coilpack and its no good so he bought a new. What a chump he should've told this to begin with instead ask ing to me post questions about it. Anyway thanks you deserve points and with a few others that helped me out this week.
