The other day one of my AC hoses snapped off and all of my refrigerant came out so my system is now empty. I fixed the hose I just need to refill the system and was just wondering how much is in there??

if you purchase a kit from an auto parts store, they use a gauge that has a "zone" where the pressure is correct. They go from underfilled to correct-zone to overfilled. It should be pretty straightforward.

Thats not going to work. You need to vac the system to remove any moisture that entered the system then the high side and low side must be filled to spec. If you fill the low side, it wont bleed over and fill the high side. Unless you have the proper tools and know what your doing, the little recharge kit isnt going to help.

So how do I do it then....and is it really hard???

Your going to need a manifold and gauges. You will also need a vacuum pump to vac the lines. Basically you need about 300-400 in tools and I know your not going to buy them so, find a local shop running a special. The shop in town by us runs a special in spring 58.00 for labor + the cost of R134.

you already saved the money of replacing the bad line so let a tech fill it the proper way and enjoy it all summer.

Ok thanks alot...did u go to a dealer or some other type of shop? Im not sure what they have in my area.

So what if the lines werent diconnected? would the refill kit still be useless? I havent had my AC/PS belt on in the last 6 months and i finally fixxed the problems. I didnt disconnect the lines though. Would I still need a profesional fill?

Essentially those refill kits are useless. Most have additives that will harm the system (like fix-a-flat), or come with oil in them, which will cause you to end up with too much oil, then you'll end up with poor cooling. If it's leaked down, there's a reason why, and a tech with the proper (expensive) tools can locate it. It will also take the tech's expensive recovery machine and then manifold to recharge it after the problem is repaired.

If you hook it back up and it's performing bad, have a reputable shop diagnose it. Besides, it's a $25,000 fine if your caught releasing refrigerant into the atmosphere or recovering it w/o a Section 609 certification.

So I finally found the leak in my system and its the hose from the compressor to the evaporator...i called mits to see how much the hose was and they want $180!! Is there anywhere else I could get this hose cheaper??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
