I already have the center ones on and used assembly lube on those but Im going to put the end caps on next. I read the engine building guide on the main page and it said to use Anearobic sealant for those two but I cant seem to fined any at the local stores around hear. I have black RTV High-temp sealant but will that do the trick?

you need either Loctite 518 or the Permetex 51813, its a fairly specific sealent so you will have to get it at NAPA or an industrial products place.

+1, Anerobic sealant is the shit! Its expensive but good stuff, it only seals in the absence of oxygen but it doesn't form a crystaline structure like loctite does.

For future references, if the manual states Anaerobic sealent, use it.

It is vastly different from your RTV.

Im not using a manual. I was looking at the engine building guide on this site to make sure I was doing everything correctly. If it was a book I wouldn't ask, but this was just another guy building up a motor who may have used this type of sealant because its what he had on hand.

You need to get a Haynes then, there only $15 and you will learn a lot from it. Def. not a waste of money.

I used high temp copper rtv and is seems to be working fine. should I be concerned that it will leak prematurely?

That was all that I used to use on them. Worked fine. Now, ever since I pulled the engine out, I bought some of the anaerobic sealer for the bedplate and I realized that that was what you are really supposed to use for the cam caps too. Ever since then I have used the anaerobic stuff. But like I said I never had a problem with the cam caps leaking before.

RTV will not squeeze thin enough and will result in bearing clearances that are out of spec. The rest is common sense.
