Okay so heres the deal, i just went and had my water pump and timing belt changed, all mitsu parts, timing is dead on, they checked it endless amount of times..........so i drive it home, and it starts to sputter and hesitate, then when i barely hold the throttle it surges then almost dies........face with that, i changed the tps, the ect, fuel filter, spark plugs, ignition, spark plugs, and o2 sensor..........my air fuel gauge still says im running rich which i would assume is the cause for the sputter, so i checked fuel pressure, it starts at 52psi and never changes, the gauge bounces alot when the car is on and then holds steady some, but always basically stays on 52 psi........... Now thats not the end of the problem, on no, couldnt be, now my car smokes like a beast.......its a lightly bluish white smoke, it used to smoke a little but now its bad, so then i decide to check the compression, its 215-215-215-215, i thought maybe it did that wrong somehow, but now, perfect every time i do it..........what the hell else could be causing this........so it stutters and smokes like hell now, the stuttering is alot less than it was after changing all that.......now keep in mind i didnt randomly change parts, i got a cel for the tps, one for the o2 sensor, and i knew it was time for a new fuel filter and plugs......also my plugs are covered in carbon so i can definitley tell im running rich as hell, please help, im at wits end and tired of buying useless ass parts...........oh and i get cel 31 and 21 now. any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Thats weird that your compression is right on, I would say head gasket, but that wouldn't make much sense, I would say to check your ASD and fuel pump relays

Maybe im retarded what is asd????? and how exactly do i check a relay, am i checking resitance, if so across what, thanks for helping man, this car is killin me

The ASD relay is the MFI relay what it dose is controls the voltage for the fuel injectors, coil, and alternator

Your ASD relay and your Fuel pump relays if you are manual the two relays that I have outlined in this picture are what you are looking for ....






The green Relay is the Fuel Pump and the Red is the ASD, first thing you will need to do is check to see if they have any corrosion, if so then just use some sand paper and CRC electrical cleaner and wash it off, and try to see if that fixed anything, if not disconnect the relay and check the voltage at the harness side between 6 and ground, if that is bad then harness between the relay and battery if may have melted to the egr or something goofy, do the same on the fuel pump relay, if this fixes nothing your ECU might be bad

Oh BTW CEL 31 and 21.....31 is for the Engine Coolant temperature sensor voltage too high, and 21 is Injector 1 control Circuit...with "21" your ASD is involved and with the 31 you probably just need a new coolant temp sensor, they are not too much, and check the harness to the coolant temp sensor

yeah i replaced the coolant temp sensor about a week ago, and its still throwing that code, ive checked harness and all that so im lost there, im about to go down there and check the two relays like you said, thanks alot for the help

You were looking at the ones for the scan tools, if he is using the keydance to get the codes, they are different.

21 is this:

21 Upstream H02S stays at center

Harness and connector / Upstream HO2S

31 is this:

31 EVAP solenoid circuit

Evaporative purge solenoid / Clogged purge line / Vacuum hose /Evaporative emission canister clogged

from what I though the Evap code was nothing to worry about, well it is nothing that wouldn't make the car not run correctly

I was getting a really bad sputter and had done most of the work you mentioned, turned out it was just nasty injectors, I ran a fuel coctail of bg44k, lucas upper cylinder lube (1/2qt)and some good octane booster through a tank and it cleared right up after about half a tank

That sounds like a good idea to do

What kind of O2 sensor did you replace yours with?

Everything points to dead O2. Get a new one, and make sure it's wired right, theres at least 4 different kinds. I like sparkplugs.com (they also sell o2 sensors) and oxygensensors.com

i got a bosch o.e. one from advance or autozone or one of them, now the weird thing is i thought maybe my gauge was broken since it always sits all the way on rich but now i replace the o2 sensor and nothing changed..........and the only code i get from the keydance is 21 now......wtf are these sensors no good????

okay, so checked relays, they are fine, i cant find crap else wrong with it, maybe this will help spark something too, the only time it smokes is about 10 minutes to being warmed up, then it only smokes from idle till about 1800 rpm's then it goes away again................any ideas???

Head gasket, valve stem seals, piston rings, mine rarely smoked, but when it did it was around there under hard acceleration, I tore the engine apart to find cly #3 rings toasted and the valve stem steals were in bad shape as well.

how exactly does it surge, ive had this issue twice in the past, the first time it was my cam positioning sensor which took a shit, then it was my map sensor. I would check the voltages on your map sensor and cam positioning sensor, check the wires on the harness make sure theres no burnt wires.. remember our cars do not like the cheap autozone crap sensors, they prefer the mopar stuff, at least for the cam positioning sensor. good luck
