I just installed a short ram system on my 99 Eclipse GS. I punched the gas while going up a hill and the car just basically lost all power. It didn't really miss, it just didn't accelerate. It just sputtered and kept me going the same speed. The check engine light started flashing and then about 10 seconds later it went off. The car then ran fine for the rest of my short trip. Does anyone know what caused this? I have heard something about the Mass Airflow Sensor but I don't know if this has anything to do with it. Thanks. Chad

Pull off the intake and check to see if the wiring harness is burnt by the EGR pipe. That can to happen and grounds out the wires (ex. MAP sensor ones).

They are fine. Everything else looks to be good too. I don't know why it missed like that. Hope someone can give me the answer. Thanks for your help. Chad

vaccuum lines? /shrug
may have disturbed a line or somthing to/from the TB when you put the ram on.
when was the last time you changed plugs and wires?

if the CEL is still on go and pull the code and maybe that will lead you to somthing.

intermitent problems are what drive 2GNTers mad :P

I just tuned it up. The vacuum lines are good. What is the CEL?

I had that happen to my 97 once, it was the TPS sensor on the TB. Keep an eye on it, see if you can also pull the code.

Either drive to the nearest auto parts store usually they have a scanner you can use, or if your a 97 do the keydance process and you will magicly have your code...

Ohh ok. Thanks. It isn't on right now. If it comes back on, I'll take it over there and get it checked out. Hopefully I don't have any more problems.

He said in his first post that he has a 99 so the keydance won't work.

It could be one of a multitude of things. But if the car is running fine now and the cel went away, it could be just that the ECU adjusted to the new influx of air.

I just don't think the ECU would sputter like that caseu you installed a short ram intake....At least I never heard of this happening

How steep was the hill? AKA what was the rate of elevation change?

Down hill to a very steep hill. About a 9% grade or something like that.
