103252, Need P.S. help. Posted by RedLineInc07, Feb-27-07 03:37 AM
Good Morning everyone. I have a question I hope someone here can answer. Latley on my 98 rs the 3rd of the bunch, I have been throwing a CEL.
I tested the code and came up with PS regulator Pressure sensor/low fluid code.
Now I checked the obvious the fluids also checked for leaks, I came up with no leaks and good fluid level.
I never knew these cars to have a regulator other than the pump, or to even throw a code for the PS pump, now I have a few pumps here and I'm willing to change it out if one of you people came confirm that I should...
ADD---- This is the code I'm getting with refrance to the cel code we have on the 2gnt web site,
115 PO551 65 Power steering switch failure Harness and connector / Power steering pressure switch / Power Steering Pump / Low fluid level
Well thanks in advance, ~Dean

I've never heard of anything to do with the ps throwing a CEL. You might really be low on fluid even if it appears full, due to air in the lines. You can jack the front of your rs up and turn the wheels to get it out, but before you do this wait for more replies. Does the ps whine at all?

replace the power steering pressure switch, its a dealer only part.. like 10 bucks or so.
First check the single wire connection to the power steering pump for corrosion first, thats usually the cause, if its clean then replace the switch and top it off with some new fluid

If your power steering is starting to whine it doesn't necessarily mean the pump itself is going out. It could be a number of things such as a loose ps belt, low fluid (even if it looks full), bad ps belt, or bad belt tensioner. Check everything else out first before you replace your pump.
