Ok heres the deal. My 96 mitsubishi eclipse RS recently started doing this maybe like a week or so ago. At first it wasn't bad then it got worse, to the point were the car only cranks sometimes and even then I have to give it a little gas for it to go. Now I changed out the spark plugs, the wires, the coil pack and even the fuel pump, but had no luck at all. I really want to figure out what else it could possibly be so I can try my luck and get it running right again. So Can somebody please tell me any other possible causes, and anything else I should check for! The car hesitates to crank, while trying to crank it up it sometimes backfires, and after it cranks if I even touch the gas pedal a little it revs up as if I'm holding it down! WHY?

could be a badly stretched or jumped timingbelt, I had a problem once where my cam sprocket came loose and finally sheared the alignment pin off, I'd definitly check timing if you can, maybe even hit it with a compression test but the backfiring leads me to think timing
