ok i was wondering how hard it is to put in prothane motor mounts for a 98 eclipse rs? and if some one has a write up on how to do it?

The hardest part is getting to the mounts and pressing the old ones out. The easiest is the passenger side and front. The rear and drivers side mount are a pain. Might want to look into the solid front mount from AFX at howell. I think the mounts are worth it but I don't mind the added vibrations. Just learn how to tighten random stuff up that vibrates loose.

Press, any way you can really. Easiest would be a press though.

lol, damn, that is pretty close to how I do it. I don't bother with drilling out the rubber. I just make enough of a hole for my sawzall. Then I sawzall two spots and air hammer it out. Also, for ease of installation, I grease up the prothane, just a little.

Where are you running into problems? I think I take the battery, battery support and front tire off (for access)to do that one. Does that help :shrug ?

You shouldn't need to take the tire off. Just the battery out, throttle body, and any pipiing that may obviously be there. Your talking the right side engine mount right? (orientation of engine right) You might want to prop up the back side of the tranny cause when you realease that mount it will be a bitch to get the same angle again to reinstall it.

I was thinking about getting these ProThane mounts but how bad is the vibrations with them guys?

my problem is the three bolts that the mounts bolts to i cat get the mount off of there i dont know if theres a certain techinqe to get it off

If I recall you might have to unbolt the bracket for the shifter linkage and pull it out of the way, that might help you out a little. Your talking the engine orientation right mount, correct? The heater hoses might be imposing too.

I have the prothane ones, there not bad. I had my rotating assembly all balanced and I get a couple small vibrations from my center console. My friend over here didn't have his balanced and it rattles so bad! It's rediculous! It's bad enough that I would pull it back out and take it apart to fi it! Mines good though. The car feels a lot stiffer, I can definetly feel the engine now!

OK, maybe I'm at the wrong mount here. I thought you were talking about the transaxle mount on the nose of the transmission. From the other replies, I'm guessing that you are talking about the rear rollstop mount (underneath the Throttle body), yes?

If that's the case, then undoing the shift linkage does make access easier (I've done it both ways). after undoing the linkage, I use a 18" extension with a socket (I think it's 14mm or maybe a 12mm) to get to the mount bolts. That allows me to get two of them. I then put a swivel knuckle on the end of my extension and carefully place it on the last one to get it off. If you don't have the knuckle then you can get the last bolt from underneath. But it is kinda yucky (technical term) to get at.

Sorry if I misunderstood the mount you mentioned.

The vibrations are not that bad, I have only major vibes at about 4k when engine breaking. Other than that its good. It really made a difference if the feel. Worth it imo.

i have only replaced the front mount and the passenger side mount with the prothane mounts and i have heavy vibration at idle to 1500 rpm. It feels like i have a v8 under the hood but i like it haha

I have all of mine done. I did some reading from another post and they said they greased up the mounts a little so they went in. I wish I would have been smart enough to do that. I had a bitch of a time getting those to squeeze into the factory mounts for re-installating not to mention trying to get the holes to line up.
I got to all of the bolts from the top by the intake mani with an exension. Make sure you check your chiltons for the right torque specs for re-install.
The only vibrations I get are when I almost kill it as I'm letting out first. Those combined with my koni's all the way stiff make it for a nice comfortable ride!!

I just got the Prothane kit. Can't wait to get them in!!
