okay about a week ago i was down shifting and it went into 1st instead of 3rd and went into 9k and i blew the tranny up so i got a new clutch and a new tranny and it got most of the vibration out but it only does it in first and some at the end of second it rattles in first from about 3 to 7k and i dont know what to do

try not to downshift into 1st any more? lol sorry, if it "rattles" then either there is something loose or there is something in there that doesnt belong in there...

How the hell did you get it to go to 9k? Unless your stand alone you cant. Are you sure the tob is in there right? Its a pretty common rattle when people do clutches.

Unless your tires spin the motor to that RPM via the transmission. What's to stop you from it? Nothing. Many people have done this one before.

Ok here is what he is saying Slo, He was shifting from 2nd to 3rd, Proably at something like 45-50 mph and somehow he managed to stuff her into 1st instead of 3rd. When he let out on the clutch the foward motion of the car forced the engine to over rev alot (Possibly past 9k RPM since that's the highest our tach's go). Our transmissions are not designed to handle that kind of revving. and he probably destroyed the input shaft and bearings. Thus causing more damage through out.

On a side note your noise could be coming from your valve trane. stock springs can't handle that kind of revving and could have been damaged. I suggest doing your VC gasket and a thorough inspection of your valve trane.

Lol, those don't apply the brakes or stop the crankshaft from spinning. The engine is a free-revving device. There's no way to stop physical momentum from making it rev as high as 9k rpm or higher. fuel cut and spark only keep the driver from revving it higher than that.

exactly but just tonight iwas letting loose with it and the rev limiter kicked back at 5k

I had a customer downshift from 5th doing about 120 right into 1st, dont know how the hell he got it into that gear but it happened, the clutch exploded, took the tranny with it and ripped both ears right off the block, it was a BIG mess, he said his tach was spun the whole way around, suprisingly he didnt grenade the engine but after that it was pretty much useless anyways

im gonna sound like a jerk, but i dont give a shit. My question is how the fuck do u downshift from 5th to 1st while going 120?? when im going around 35 and try to get it into first it doesnt want to go in that easy (the shift), so how the hell do u get 1st in at 120
? i have only been driving manual for about some months now, and i know that im not supossed to shift down to first after im past the 35mph line in my car!!!

If you want to name call or start fights it's too easy. One of the Mods can ban your ass from these boards, and you can start all the fights you want over on tooners.

With that said, people make mistakes, shit happens, and sometimes you misshift, and put it into first with the sloppy ass stock shifters that these cars came with. I had it happen to me in my first eclipse but I didn't let out on the clutch.

Very true, that can happen :) Try to tone it down a little guys and not flex your e-peen here.

You should never be trying to put yyour car in first while moving. Put it into first when you are stopped. It's not good practice to jam it into first.

First instead of third is understandable but why would you even have the shifter near first at 120mph!? You don't start over after you hit 5th lol.
