ok, i month ago i rebuilt top end new HG ad all that well the problem was bad valve seal so i got the head redone, ne ways, no smokign now, so i fixed that , but now i have this crappy lumpy shakey idle that is really low 600 rpm and it sometimes rises to 1k for a sec then back down., i checked for vac leaks, and the vac is low, like -10~-13, and no leaks were found, i re did the vac lines with silicone hose. changed/swaped EGR, plugs coil, crank/cam sensor,fuel filter ran sea foam. most said it was my timing, but i made sure it was perfect, but i didnt take in acout the aftermarket gears could be off, so i pulled the VC and put those holes in the cams straigh up to see of the matched the cam gears and look at the pics, it looks like my intake cam is advanced slightly? so could this cause my lumpy idle?

i think that my intake cam looks advanced when the cam gear marks line up, what do u guys think?

I think your intake cam looks good now. Have you tried starting it back up since you fixed the timing yet?

P.S. Where you drunk when you first timed it?

Whenever i'm working with aftermarket adjustable cam gears, I take a stock cam gear, and put the aftermarket one on top of it, and line up the dowl pin holes in the center of the gear, and then make a mark on the aftermarket gear to where the TDC notch is on the stocker. You would be surprised how little off the timing can be to get a bad idle with low vac..

i havent touched the timing yet.. thats all from the first time i timed it..
xtreme, i for got to do that , thas why im wondering how "off" my timin looks, b/c i have a lo as vas and my idle sux and ive tried everything to fix it, now i look t the timing in the above pix and it looks like those holes are really close but not dead on. is that what tlook like to you?

Thats Exactly how i had to mark my AEM's..They put the TDC marks on the edge of the tooth, while our stock marks are approx in the center of the tooth. Its not much you would think, but thats about 2 degrees on each cam gear..It comes out to about half a tooth off, wich is enough to get a choppy idle and low vac..been there done that!

I have had timing off a tooth before and it idle and ran like crap. Fix it and it will probably fix the problem.

if you have the fidanza's and it looks like you do, the gears are marked wrong.

Place the Crank at TDC and take off your valve cover. Insert 1/4 extensions in the holes on the cams. the extensions need to point perpendicular to the valve cover gasket surface. Do not point them straight up because our motor sits at a slight angle.

Quit goofing around with it and fix it. Dont just look at the hole put an extension in it. The hole istelf looks misleading.

HAHA, ok terry il do it tonight.

done, idles alot better and im watching the engine now and it seems to shake and shimmer alot less and my exhaust doesnt wake the dead any more.. so i thin it fixed it, ill post pix of the cams with the 1/4" extendions so that ppl can see the diff. thanx guys!
