102426, No Good Idle!
Posted by busch4103, Dec-24-06 02:52 PM
Alright here we go, a month and half ago when I came to a stop my RPMS dropped to normal idle and began going from normal idle to almost 0 and back up rapidly nearly shuting down but not quite. I gave it some gas let off and it stopped acting up. About 2 weeks later same exact thing happened I did the same with the gas and it stopped again. Now the other day on the way home I hit the clutch to round the corner and it started this again only this time its not stopping. I started up the next morning and its idling so rough I can't drive it for fear of jacking somthing up worse. Any suggestions would be a great help. P.S. The rough idle sounds like somwhat like a sparkplug not firing. But all is firing. Thanks.

Is it throwing a code? Check the IAC, take it out and clean it. Only other thing I can think of is the fuel pump is starting to go. Maybe..

here's a write-up to check out cleaning up or changing your IAC, it's quite easy to do

I never had the problem where it actually idled bad, but I always had the problem of random stalling/acting like stalling when pushing in the clutch coming to a stop since I've had the car. It occurred more in the cold weather. I never really figured it out, but it seems to have slowly gone away since I got the car (happens maybe once every couple months now). Really the only things I've done differently are premium gas, new fuel filter, new fuel pump. You can also try installing a new fuel filter if you decide that it may be fuel related instead of the IAC or a vac leak.

I've had the problem of occasional rough idling and stalling since I got the head ported/milled. What I ended up doing was adjusting the throttle plate screw out more so that it hits sooner when it closes. This seems to have helped it idle a bit better and hardly ever stall. Your problem may be the IAC as others have said though, if it just recently started.

you say "all is firing" - but are they firing consistently. idle issues are typically plugs/plug wires/fuel filter. then start worrying about IAC and stuff like that. simple stuff first.
