ok, my problem is that about a month ago i put another engine and tranny in my car. 3 days after i did my altenator fuse blew and i could not figure out why so i ran a jump wire......then i ran the wire straight to the battery......the wire is getting so hot that it melted the plastic piece between the altenator and the hot wire and shorted it out, battery caught fire and it was a mess......i ran new wires.......what would cause it to do that??? i already changed the alt and checked all relays and fuses........the car is a 1997 gs 5 speed......thanks!!!!

high amp draw. did the battery have an internal short, perhaps? did you make certain the connections were secure?

There is a reason there are fuses on wires,lol. To alert you of problems and to stop things like....batteries blowing up. Bypassing fuses is not a 'fix'. You definitely have a short somewhere.

haha....i know that now........my altenator is running full charge all the time i guess........and i know the alt is good because i just changed it because the old one i had did the same thing.....i dont have a short, i checked all my wires and ran new wires

Just because you ran new wires doesn't mean you don't have a short beyond the point where your new wire terminates, i.e. in the harness somewhere.

...and running new wire in that condition is not a fix, it's a boneheaded idea the results of which you've already experienced - DON'T DO THAT.

understandable, but the wire that runs from the fuse box to the alt is completely removed, and i ran a new cable from the battery directly to the alt..........the only other wirnig problem i think i could have is the two wires that run from the ecu, and what would cause the alt to run full charge at all times???? ecu faulty??? faulty volt regulator???
