when i was driving my eclipse the oil light went on then my car imediatly shut down. then while the tow trck guy tried starting it the engine backfired out of the throttle body and blew the oil pan gasket the dipstick was also shot out up into the air. i would appreciate any help becuase i am new to this car. thank you and happy holidays.

There are any number of things that could cause that, all of them catastrophic, none of them cheap or easy to fix. You may have lost the motor.

Play dumb.
Tow truck drivers are there to load your disabled car onto the flatbed and deliver it, intact, to the destination of your choice. They are not paid to diagnose, treat or repair your vehicle. It sounds like the car was already good and fucked before he got there, but if neither of you looked under the hood for a shredded belt or under the car for any fluids, then cranking the car like that was kinda foolhardy.

yea ive pretty much decided im gonna replace the engine should i buy the same stock engine or are there any engines you guys would suggest.

As a replacement I would suggest looking into the 420A motor. It is a direct drop in and easily upgradeable with aftermarket parts for upwards of 300 HP with a turbo kit!!!! W.ooters!
