101837, How much hp can the stock cv axles take?????
Posted by BoostedEclipse, Nov-10-06 03:35 PM
I'm currently looking for new axles. I'm running 310cc injectors with an sfmu. I don't want to run to high of boost till I know what the axles can take. I have had my car at 12-13 lbs on them before for a short while (1 1/2 weeks). I just don't know though if they can support that hp at a drop or under full boost. Any help would be appreciated.

IDK how much, but the stockers are absolutely incredible to me. I have 148k on mine and I launch the crap out of them. With slicks. I have been waiting for the other shoe to drop but it just hasn't.

Now, I'm only pushing 170whp but, 148k originals, still holding up.

And while I'm at it, kudos to these tranny's. They hold up to all kinds of crap. 148k on the tranny with speed shifts at 8500! The only problem I had was when I put in an lsd I used the ring gear that was on it (not my original) and it spun the main shaft gear on a hard launch. It turns out that even though these ring gears are supposedly all the the same, the gear that was on there measured an actual 1/16 smaller than my others! Maybe a neon? Terry, any knowledge?

But I digress. Use your originals until/if they break. Then you can get a set of lifetimes from say Advance/Autozone/Napa. Something like $50 (WITH core) each. Or you can get a set of driveshop's axles but those must be around $400 for the set.

Wheel hop and launching with slicks tend to be the most destructive to axles. If you don't really do either then it's likely your axle failures will be few and far between.

What he said. If you have good suspension, good motor mounts, that will obviously make your axles last longer. Think of wheel hop like your axles are being jackhammered by traction.
