101429, ac in intercooler? Posted by astaindsoul5446, Oct-17-06 02:29 PM
Has anyone ever tried to loops the air conditioner line on the intercooler? i dont know if it is possible, but will be an instant gain in horse power. just looking for some input.someone was telling me that they did it but i dont know if its can be. Thanks Jarod March

seeing as no one else wants to take the time to answer you...
Nevermind... Ill just tell you that you cant get something for free. If this is such a great idea, why didnt the engineeres at chrysler or mitsu think of it? Why hasnt Kia thought of it?

Not quite the same but close.
Refrigerated Intercoolers. This site shows them for Buick Grand Nationals and Taurus SHO.

c'mon dave. done confuse the guy more then he already is.
IMO thats a stupid idea. Either way, its a drag set up good for a pass,2, maybe 3. Your better off spending 150 on a bottle and CO2.
The plumbing and potential things that could go wrong far outweigh this idea. Againg, you wont get something for nothing. By simple transfers and conversions...you will loose way more energy then its worth.

i realize, i was just wondering if i could get some input. Im not cconfused, someone was trying to tell me they did it, never said i wanted to do it. I was a simple question. Don't treat people like they know nothing, especially when it was a poundering of an idea...... why do people try to act like they know so much more than everyone else on forums.... i thought they were for inthuisiest.

use an intercooler sprayer it sprays water on the outside to help cool it.

exactly what I was saying.
P.S. Its Pondering and Enthusiasts.
Its not that im acting like I know everything. This has been asked before. I didnt mean to directly bash you. Simple logic can tell you that something like this wont work. If it got your attention, its great that you thought about, had questions about it and asked. Id rather you do that then pay for something or worse, try it and have to fix something.

well i simple fact this has been done. but using a different source for a refrigerent. And more than likely the reason that the manufacturers havent done this is due to the fact that they dont want to push the motor to its limits, much like you and i and all the other people o this site. If you bring your car to a dealership and have most any modifications, They wont work on it. BECAUSE they have to warranty any of their work.... ;) get it? Got it? GOOOOOOOD Later

Yes, cooling the charge has been done in many different ways. Most of us use a FMIC. Never said it wasnt, I said using your vehicles AC system was not the best way of doing it. Simple energy conversion dude, you cant, without loosing a percentage of it.
As to why the OEM's don't do it, its not about pushing the engine, They all push their engines and make them better. They have the man power, research and the money to do so. But why half ass it like this when they can just increase the engine size and get more gains? It just doesnt make sense to do this...

Sure it makes sense, for those of us who dont have the money to make our engines bigger, and we use a turbo to gain the difference it would make a big increase. And yes in using the ac system i would lose alot of energy, especially when running the ac during operation but, if you wanted to race you couold cool the intercooler to the lowest possible temp, shut the ac off, therfore allowing the turbo to compact more air into the cylinders gaining more power. P.S. I was an engineering major before i switched colleges :D besides in any transfer of thermal energy there is always some energy that is lost, Scientist have yet to find a material that wont bleed off energy. Pretty much is lab studies, the cheapest efficient form of holding the energy is using styrofoam. Pretty chinsey i think, but you do what you can afford and what works.

Although I appreciate your verb ado your "facts" are absolutely incorrect. "looping" the AC lines around an IC would hurt the air flow across the surface, so unless you actually installed these "loops" and uninstalled them after your race you would be hurting your self for daily driving. I would think you would loose performance even during the run since you would only get the radiant cooling from the lines on the outside of the IC and nothing flowing through the fins to cool the charge. So you would have a hot interior (IC) and a cool exterior ("looped" lines), kind of like nuking a steak. Now let's look at a standard AC line. Usually rubber lines, which provides the flexibility for your "loops". Have you ever touched one of those lines after your AC was on for a while? Not that cold. Not to mention the fact that it would take a while for those lines to get to a temperature to even be kind of effective. Bottom line, it's a stupid idea that would not gain you anything. It is a proven gain in horse power to cool your intake charge; it is not proven to cool it in this manner. It's an ineffective idea at best. Now an IC sprayer for CO2 or Nitros is a proven method to accomplish your goal. I reccomend you take that road. BTW if you come on here thinking you're the shit, then that is exactly what you will become. Welcome to the board, and I hope you switched to a school that teaches grammar....

well if you where an Engineering student you know exactly why it wouldnt work. I was hinting at all the laws of thermodinamics, but for the sake of keeping this simple I decided not to go into detail.
IT CAN WORK, but not the way your thinking. The ammount of heat you build up cannot be removed by your AC system efficiently(atleast not the stock one). Like kirby said, look at your lines and system, compare flows and transfer surfaces...
a 120 dollar bottle and some gas will cool WAY BETTER. Even water or alcohol will cool way better. A system like that would run around 100, and a bottles of the stuff for like a buck. You tell me which is cheaper and more effective...
You want to go bigger with your AC? get more lines? Fittings? Heat exchangers? C'mon. This is about as usefull as an electric turbo...

Lol thats pretty funny, and eletric turbo. I realize thaT the amount of time, effort and efficiency would be no where worth the time . Im proving my point that it can be done. And by the Way to the guy above No one ever said anything about wrapping the ac lines around the intercooler. Also my grammar is fine. Im typing on a computer and making typos, as well as think way to far ahead and getting lost in my thoughts.

of course it CAN be done, Anything pretty much can. What Ive been saying... will it do anything? atleast to the point of even wasting the time? NOPE.

It's called proof-reading before your hit "Post Message".

Now that ^^^ is pretty funny...lol Proving that something can be done is not your point. It is a practice in proving that impossibility does not exist. The issue here is that nobody said it was impossible. So what you are really doing is starting a pointless proof battle with people who are smarter than you. It's funny that you said "And by the Way to the guy above No one ever said anything about wrapping the ac lines around the intercooler." Because here is your original post:
Originally posted by astaindsoul5446 Has anyone ever tried to loops the air conditioner line on the intercooler? i dont know if it is possible, but will be an instant gain in horse power. just looking for some input.someone was telling me that they did it but i dont know if its can be. Now I'm no expert on broken English, I'll give you that. However if I read correctly the phrase "Has anyone ever tried to loops the air conditioner line on the intercooler?" leads me to believe you are going to "loops" the air conditioner line around the intercooler. Perhaps you can enlighten me to what "loops the air conditioner line on the intercooler?" means. Were you speaking of looping the line and then stapling it to the front of the IC? That may be even more pointless...
Now here is another funny item, you said: "I realize thaT the amount of time, effort and efficiency would be no where worth the time . Im proving my point that it can be done." Now this is a direct contradiction to your first post which reads:
Originally posted by astaindsoul5446 Has anyone ever tried to loops the air conditioner line on the intercooler? i dont know if it is possible, but will be an instant gain in horse power. just looking for some input.someone was telling me that they did it but i dont know if its can be. Now let's see you go from a first post saying "i dont know if it is possible" "someone was telling me that they did it but i dont know if its can be." to saying just a few posts later: "I realize thaT the amount of time, effort and efficiency would be no where worth the time . Im proving my point that it can be done." So if I understand this correctly. You asked a question saying you did not know if something was possible in order to prove the point that it can be done? Is that correct? P.S. You're right on the grammar thing, your grammar skills are JDM tyte yo..

Ok yea so i should have said through the intercooler, and by loop i mean to run. Yes i realize i said it can be done after saying i didnt know. This was after learning more about it. By the way nice insult on intelligence for starters you know nothing about me, and it just show me that you cant come up with anything more intelligent to say. Kind of like swearing.
