ok so i installed a 4-gauge copper wire ground kit, and its working great, but the rubber insulation around the wire does little against the heat on the engine. im worried the wire insulaton will melt, specially the ones that are on the right of my header (the one that connects to the block-head-tranny housing) What can i use to shield them?. i put a bit of wire loom around a part of one of the wires..well it melted right off :O

I took off my timing belt cover after the rebuild and had to route the A/C, O2 sensor, etc. wires right by the downpipe, manifold, and turbo so they wouldn't get caught in the timing belt. Just like you, the wire loom melted right off. I haven't had a chance to try this stuff yet, but it looks promising, just a little pricey...

Actually, just glancing @ that pricing... I believe the DEI Cool-Tube Extreme is still cheaper. That's what I've got and I love the stuff (loox similar). Just search Summit :)

just one question dude...why are you worried about insulating the ground wires...when the whole car is the ground...???

or is it for looks?

WELL dooD HEHEH if u read the title, it says HEAT shielding, the wires get hot, and they are covered by rubber, which melts. and one of the wires runs next to the exhaust manifold.

If the insulation is melting off the wires then you used the wrong wires. Any automotive grade ground cable should be able to withstand engine bay temps.
If it is melting because it is laid across the exhaust manifold then you have routed them way wrong.

Rubber shouldnt be in there. If you notice, I said theres no reason for them to even be insulated by rubber...

its the only wire i could find good enough to get the job done.
