101261, clogged cat=poor idle? Posted by ian_12, Oct-07-06 09:48 AM
so after much cleaning, checking vacuum lines, replacing tps, cleaning iac and testing, and so on, my friends 95 gs turbo is still idling like crap. i dont think it has ever had a smooth idle since i rebuilt it, and i cant say it ever was smooth before hand since he bought it tore apart. i figured maybe timing was off a bit, but then i remembered DUH! the head gasket and piston rings were shot so it was burning oil and coolant badly. i figured the catatlytic converter is clogged from that or severly damaged especially at its age, and being turbo doesnt help.
so i was wanting to know if anybody else has had some rough idle, jumps around from 700-950 rpms, due to a clogged cat. i also kind of figure that because if you mash the gas and hit full boost it doesnt feel like anything has happened but it picks up better. ive driven and riden in plenty of turbo cars, and i know the feeling. his car only kicks if its high in the rpms and then go full throttle which still it isnt much. i just figure backpressure is killing it.
just want some feedback on that as im going to do some more work on it this week, and ditch that POS hahn downpipe and going to clock the turbo and reposition it for the intercooler since he finally had time to build up money to buy things for the car instead of forking out money to repair it. cant wait to hear that turbo xs rfl, but now im rambling
