101151, The BEST Spark Plug Wires
Posted by agescobedo, Sep-25-06 02:31 PM
Hello,

I am trying to find the best spark plug wires... I am going with MSD which are 8.5mm, but I am seeing other brands on ebay with 10.2-10.5mm

These other brands are OBX and a japanesse or chinese 6ix core...

Can somebody give me a hand to select the best of these products?

Thank you I would really appreciate your help

I didnt like the MSD wires AT ALL

they didnt like the insane heat of my engine bay and crapped out on me. Ill never buy ANYTHING MSD ever again, ever. Everything ive had of theirs craps out and leaves me stranded, fuck that shit.

go with some NGK wires or something, I have stock wires on mine now and it runs fine so I dont know why you need wires.

The best wires are the ones that came with you car. They are tested to last atleast 60K if not more miles, in various driving conditions, and extreme temperatures.

Otherwise I like my NGKs.

I need new wires because the ones I have are probably the original ones or the last owner changed them, but they look very crappy. Also, I realized that they were not connected all the way to the coil pack which actually burns the cables.

I have new 4 electrode Bosch spark plugs but if my cables are bad they are not working as they should...

Were can I get the NGK wires (It seems that those are quite popular)? I have had very bad experience with OEM so I would rather not buy those...

Just out of curiosity.. What would you suggest then as an alternative to an MSD Coil pack?

(I'd also ditch the overpriced Platinum+4 plugs. The only thing you get more of with them is the risk of platinum plating flaking off and floating around inside your engine. :thumbsdown)

NGK BKR5E for modded NA. NGK BKR6E for mostly stock. NGK BKR7E for turbo applications. Unless you're running an ignition amplifier, you don't need anything more than a set of $30 Bosch wires from Autozone. They have a lifetime guarantee and will be the last set you ever buy.

The end.

I can't use platinum plugs with nitrous. Thanks for the alternative to MSD coils. I'll be looking into them more.

Sorry to steal the thread from the original poster, but... I was able to find a coil pack on howell, and I saw that it's a flat pin style. I was blessed with round pin. Anyone know if the screamin' demon comes in round pin? I've looked elesewhere to price them out, and haven't had much luck finding them.

You'll have to find someone parting out a 96+ and buy the flat pin harness and about 5-6 inches or wire, cut your harness off and splice in the flat pin harness. To my knowledge they don't make the Screamin Demon in the round pin style.

Purchased the OBX wires from ebay and you should be warned that they have fitment issues. Wires for cylinders 3&4 are about an 1-2" too long. Normally you could just flex the wires to make them fit but where they are so thick its nearly impossible to do.

While I applaud your efforts, I suspect that the OP has already chosen his product. He posted this in 2006.

Just watch for posting dates as you respond. Thanks.
