10070, 3in muffler?? Posted by 1TuffRS, Dec-13-01 12:39 PM
Will putting a 3in muffler on the stock piping be too much??? Im sure any exhaust shop can fab some piping from the axle back to make it fit, but will I lose a lot of low end?? And will this shit be loud?? When I changed to my GST muffler I drove around my neighborhood w/out a muffler just to see how loud it could be and well it was UNBEARABLE. Dont get me wrong, the sound was sweet as hell with all the gurgling it was doing, but that wouldnt work everyday.

i wouldn't get a 3" muff unless you are going turbo and i'm referring to 3" inlet not just a 3" tip. :)

I plan on going turbo sometime next year, and wanted to do a full 3" cat back when I do, thats why I got the 3in (inlet and outlet w/ 3.5in tip)

I have a straight through muffler with 2.5in" inlet, and twin 4" tips. It clears the hold in my bumper by about an 1/8th of an inch. It's pretty loud. Kinda droney, but very aggressive sounding.

I highly recommend you get a 2.5 catback, you will loose alot of low end and get a 2.5 inlet for your muffler the welders will make it fit dont worry about that, I think mines a 4 or 5 inch tip and it sounds awsome I got the intimator from APC www.4apc.net its a nice muffler good mod

the size of the muffler doens't matter.. it's the piping that tunes the exhaust. You could get as big as a muffler as you want. If toney get's the 3" muffler and get's a gradual increase in diameter from the axle back to make it fit.. and then goes turbo.. all he has to do is get the 3" piping. btw toney.. I packed it all up.. just need to send it out.

cool man, the main thing I was worried about was the noise though. Im scared that a 3in muffler will be loud enough to make old ladies cry and small children tremble with fear. If its too loud is there anyway I could quiet it down. Hey Rick just email me once you get it sent out.

nah it shouldn't be that loud depends on the muff the muff is what limits the sound. go for it and if it' sto loud theny can put resonators in to quite it down
