100626, 90mm throtte body
Posted by jcarp23, Aug-24-06 03:56 PM
whats up fellows i'm new around and i wanted to get some feedback on this topic. well i'm in the middle of my build and i'm still in the process of getting parts. i now have my short block fixin to get put back together with weisco 8.8 and eagle rods. i'm working on the flow right now. i've gasket ported the head and i took out the hump in the exhaust chamber of the valve. i'm running crower valves with titantium retainers, ble lifter kit, pt rockers, crane turbo cams. i helped a buddy of mine install a 90mm on his sr20 a little while back and decided to try and do an install on the dsm. i plan on running a ball bearing turbo and i've got the injector resistor and i'm also going to do the ms set up as well with 8 injectors. i'm really seeing if anyone has attempted this and just seeming what people feel about this set up. also i'm hooking it up to a obx manifold.

My 60mm TB is very touchy, I wouldn't get anything bigger than 60.

One.. I don't think you know damn near enough about the MS to run an 8 injector set up with it. (start reading the Engine management section to learn more. Or go to www.msefi.com)

Two... It's really not necessary to run 8 injectors with the MS because it can control pulsewidth of the injectors so your not working with the stock injector map and modifying fuel pressure.

Three... You really need to learn alot more about this engine before you start running a 90mm TB just for the hell of it. Bigger is not always better. There is a thing called *air velocity* which is essential to making power.

its going to be a shop car and we are looking to do a few mods that no one has done yet. i've had a turbo 420 before i've just never gone this far as to setting up for way more horsepower. what i meant to say was that i was either going to run the 8 injector set up or the ms. the more i read about the ms the more i like but its def something that i'm going to research more before i start going full blown at it. we are shooting for 550 horses and looking to improve every area possible. i know that the 420a is a stout motor head wise in stock trim. such with hahn racecraft turning up great numbers, we are just looking to take that one step further and explore other areas. i'll keep every one in touch and let them know how it goes and i'm sure have i'll plenty more questions. thanks

From what I've noticed from increasing the bore of TB in the 2gnt and the Z is that they don't really add any power at all. At least on the Z they have said that dyno testing the mod it didn't really make anymore power. Now they did say it increased throttle response though.

a 90mm throttle body won't do you much good if you don't have mods to support as in porting the manifold, ports, etc.... Your airflow is only as good as its most restrictive airway.

i have an obx manifold but we are currently in the process of fabbing up one with larger runners and a smother transition so that all cylinders get close to an equal amount. it's something that we are messing around with but the 90mm will bolt up but you will need a .25 inch spacer to make sure that the tps sensor spaces far enough away from the manifold. i have ported the heads a good bit and with the over sized valves will we be getting alot of flow. also i have an 06 z that i put a crawford upper manifold and a week later i put the bigger tb and it made a dif. also i've had many other vechicles that i have put bigger tb's on and have always seen nice gains for the mod. i'll keep everyone in touch on the project.

Just a warning, the car will be very slow opening up everything like that until you get a turbo. Like they said above, this will kill the intake velocity.

when i put the car back together and the motor goes back in it will have a gt35r ball bearing turbo connected to it. boost will come on quick enough for me. i dont understand why stick with the smaller one. i've seen hondas run 75mm as bolt ons w/o turbo and do fine. our freakin tb are small as crap and moving massive air such as 25 psi it is very restrictive. i've done this mod to a buddies sr20 and also a lightning and neither were pushing over 12 pounds and it made a big dif. i know the lightning is not the same being 8 cyl and more air needed but i was supprised on the 240. well i guess it cant hurt to try it and see how it does since no one has tried it.

JustONE is running or was running an 80mm Mustang throttle body on his custom fabbed intake manifold. If you search for some of his posts you might find some more info.

Hahn Racecraft is a good friend of the 2GNT community. If you think you can do better than he did with the HRC RS, that's fine, but considering you've, so far, done all of jack shit to help this community, consider this your warning that any further derogatory comments towards HRC will result in your being banned immediately.

Good day sir.
