100616, weird clunking noise?
Posted by hookduphatch, Aug-24-06 07:58 AM
so today i started my car for the first time in a couple weeks. before i let it sit it had been having this metal ticking sound coming from under the cover where the timing belt is, but now that it's sat it a lot worse. i did a little research, and i saw something about timing belt tensioner bearings. could my problem be that the bearings in my tensioner have gone bad? is there anything else in that area i should look at? i'm pulling the motor in a couple weeks, and would like to get it fixed as it's super annoying.

sorry to make a new post about this, just my search didn't help me out a lot, and i'm confused and wanting to get this fixed. thanks for the help in advance.

No ideas, man. It could be the bearings... It could be a crack in the cover... It could be a rock or something in there... The only way you're going to know is to open it up and inspect it. If you're pulling the engine in a week or so, now, might as well live with it. Just install new timing equipment before you drop it back in, okay? :thumbsup
