100564, stage 2 crower cam advancement Posted by rs_sleeper98, Aug-22-06 01:19 PM
ok im running stage 2 crower cams, titanium springs and retainers, and aem adjustables. now i made roughly 4-5 hp on advancing intake 2 deg. how much further would i be able to advance without risking bent valves?

I wouldn't go any further really. and I mean, for 4 HP :shrug

I'm doing 4 degrees and I have the crower 2's, 10.5 Je's, and took .020 off head. I went from 0 to 5 degrees (in increments) while on the dyno and there was a considerable difference for me in the top end and torque. Put it this way; you can put your timing belt on one tooth off and not hit. If I remember correctly that is like an 8 degree difference (? Please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it was 7 or 8). So I believe that you have room but you should do it on the dyno because you are going to see the results as they start to level off and go down.

I can't find anything in the search about 1 tooth off being 8 degrees. I think it's less than that but hey, do what ya wanna do. :shrug
EDIT: I just don't see the search for HP being worthwhile when your messing with shit like cam timing for 4 HP.(more or less the risk) ? Why don't you have a turbo and make it easy on yourself?

That's not really the attitude to bring around. There was a time when your car was N/A and 4hp is 4hp more than you had before.
If you haven't milled the head substantially then I wouldn't worry too much about a *few* degrees here and there. I have my head milled 0.038 and i advanced my stock cams by 3* on intake and didn't bend a valve until my timing belt jumped 2-3 teeth. So even with substantial milling those few degrees didn't matter. Now if your using domed pistons for higher compression ratios then I would look more into it. otherwise have fun tuning your cams.
Just FYI* You might want something to pull fuel since more than likely you are just dumping fuel right now using crower 2's. Casbon is using a S-AFC and it's quite easy to use. It basically just changes the signal sent from the MAP sensor. Might cause some timing advance but... with N/A nothing to serious to worry about. You would be more likely to get extra HP by tuning your A/F ratio than messing with those cam gears a few degrees.

i already have a s-afc and its tuned with the cams. i had to richen up the top end a little. thanks for the input guys and like totaleklipse97 said... i think you might be in the wrong forum to suggest boost over internal upgrades.... 2gNT...
