10045, Pulley SQUEAKING!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by vmax, Dec-12-01 11:53 PM
Okay,
It seems that when it rains my belts or something starts squeaking. I put new belts on (tight!), and after a coupla months it will squeak again after it rains. What's up with that??????
Went to the dealer and was told that it was a bad PS/AC tensioner pulley. Something about a bearing that is going bad. Has anyone had this problem? If so, what can I do for a temporary remedy. Can you add a lubricant to remedy it? I'm at 53K and don't want to replace the pulley until 'the big 60k'(timing belt, udp, etc.). One of the mechanics suggested spraying the belts with soapy water. Makes them 'stickier'? Any suggestions is appreciated.

Yes, it prob is your tensioner pulley. Mine was going bad, and it usually was chirping kinda, when it was cold. From what i have heard, theese do go bad on our cars. Thery are not cheap either! Its really easy to put in a new one, but to temp remedy it, i had used some WD-40, and spray it into the outside edge of the pulley bearing, trying to get it into the center(you will see what i mean by looking). It worked for a while, but came back. I would just replace it now, to be safe...

Thanks! Yeah, they are expensive @$120!!!!<=/ I hope It will be okay, as I will be travelling to Atlanta tomorrow (from NC). Maybe lithium grease would work better? I'll get it replaced upon my return.
