100349, No oil pressure past 5k rpm?
Posted by Awsome98, Aug-08-06 03:23 PM
I rebuilt my engine about 6000 miles ago but ever since then I've noticed that there is no oil pressure once I reach about 5000 rpm, does anyone know why this would happen? It works fine the rest of the time no matter how hard I accelerate. I have tried shortening the pick-up tube, and then replacing the oil pan with a larger volume one that has a windage tray but still no luck. I have also checked the oil pressure sensor and it is securly fastened and functioning fine. Anybidy have any ideas that I haven't already tried?

A shitty gauge?

You better find out quickly, because if its correct, thats not good!

Yeah I thought about that, I installed a brand new autometer gauge because my old greddy was jumping all over the place. But unfortunatly that was not the problem.

Your oil pressure falls to zero past 5000RPM?

Use a mechanical gauge and see what it shows.

Yeah, according to the two gauges that I've installed it drops like a stone, but they are both electronic. I did have a theory that I am going to test out. I've noticed that some of my other gauges start to malfunction when I turn all my devices such as amps and TV's up. I'm wondering if at the point when it reaches 5k RPM there is somehow a shortage of voltage to the gauge due to the power being drawn by the ignition. I am going to try running a power line straight to the battery instead of just tapping it by the ECU like I have been doing. I will also have access to a dyno this weekend so I can hook up a mechanical gauge and watch it whie the engine has some load on it. I will post the results if I get any. In the meantime any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you change the sending unit when you changed gauges?

Yeah I changed the sending unit, but the result was the same.
