100256, power loss plus worse mileage
Posted by T_K, Aug-03-06 09:27 AM
for some reason my mileage suddenly dropped drastically, like from 420 miles per tank to like 320 miles with no different driving on my side. I felt this at first just a little before I hydrolocked the engine. After I got the car running again I could see well that mileage suffered, but I can't say for sure the hydrolock was the cause because I felt it before it also. I think it also used to pull better (well, as much as a stock 420a can pull anyway). Idle is ok when warmed, kinda rough when cold.

Any ideas what I should be checking, cause I'm afraid I'll just start throwing new parts at it at random.

Tonight I'll do a compression check.

Ditto. Especially after your little run in with that lake you hit. Testers are cheap these days.

I have a tester, was going to do the check last night but got lazy.

Will do it tonight.

only reason things would get that bad would be from a lower VE, a cylinder or cylinders that arnt sealing or putting out the power they use to. This can be from anything.

just did the check

last time I did it was january and back then it was 205-210-205-210, 1-2psi error margin (don't remember exact numbers)

now it's like 193-183-182-183

no huge difference between cylinders, but lower than before...

:(

Measured consumption at 22mpg today. That's ridiculous. Any suggestions??

Change your o2 sensor? My car did this once too after getting in some deep water (not hydrolocked, but I guess it splashed on the sensor). I got 19 mpg and it ran like complete shit.

the front one is the one that the ecu uses the most. Thought there are theories and to a shorter extent some reported cases of the rear one affecting the ecu.
