My girlfriend had the same problem on her 1g, and your gonna laugh when you hear what it was. One of the little stainless clips was missing from her caliper (the one that holds the pad in place). So the pad was clicking back and forth when she turned right. Other than that, I can't believe no one suggested a wheel bearing.
