Yeah, I'm making my plans now, so I just want to see when everyone plans on heading out? I want to leave friday morning(ish). And come home sunday evening, or monday morning.
I have class on monday, so I think I better come home sunday.
Anyway, I'm making my reservations for the Best Western this week sometime.
So lets hear what you got...

Yeah, last year worked out great(other than us MI guys being super late!), and hopefully the MI guys can meet up with all the people coming in from the west, in Toledo again. Then we can all have a great long caravan onward to Norwalk.
|
230, RE: The official Chicago Caravan post Posted by totaleklipse97, Jan-13-04 03:46 PM
Count me in for the chicago caravan! I live right off of 80/90 so i can meet up with you at a rest stop along the way. More than likely i can stop at the rest stop right by Notre Dame/ South Bend since that is the closest rest stop. If we can all (michigan and chicago) meet up before norwalk that would be cool as shit. And if all you guys are staying at the norwalk inn that is fine with me.

Count me and friend in too! I'm in northern Illinois, right on the WI/IL border...Zion, IL to be exact. I wouldn't mind meeting you guys up in Chicago or wherever.
I'm a cheap ass so can I sleep in someone's hotel room closet?LOL Better than sleeping in the eclipse.

244, RE: The official Chicago Caravan post Posted by JasonESi_T, Jan-14-04 05:40 AM
I'm sure we'll be coming up from Springfield again. And yes, I definitely want to get there eariler this year. Last time, I think we didn't get there until early evening and the day was just about over. And yes, we made reservations at Norwalk Inn as well. It's cheaper (and I heard the BW was booked).

250, RE: The official Chicago Caravan post Posted by Hult250R, Jan-14-04 11:41 AM
I wanna hook up with the Chicago caravan too... Im right on the Iowa Illinois border, Davenport Iowa to be exact. I know theres probably 2 other 2GNT's that will be driving up with me. QC DSM ESiT and QC DSM TSI from the board I was planning on leaving Friday morning sometime. What time is the Chicago caravan leaving? where are you guys leaving from? We still got 8 months to decide but I thought Id find out early...

I would actually prefer to come home on Monday actually. I've learned from speakign witha lot of Chicagoans that I-80(close to Indiana/Illinois border is always ridiculous on Sunday nights. Last year, I more than experienced it. I sat in traffic for almost 3-4 hours....not moving. Given that a lot of guys stay over that night, and the length of time it takes to get there, I'd just as soon stay over that last night.

260, RE: The official Chicago Caravan post Posted by Jarrad_GST, Jan-15-04 05:41 AM

261, RE: The official Chicago Caravan post Posted by Nackers, Jan-15-04 06:49 AM
Man, you know I'm in. I'm not sure if Stef is going to bring the Eclipse or not, but even if she doesn't go I'll meet up in Chicago and hop a ride with Elvis or Michael (if they let me).

So um, I guess Uber, turbo8u, Skrilla, myself, and anyone we pick up between Wichita and Chicago will be getting into Chicago Thursday afternoon then? As soon as you guys have this departure date set, I want (need) to know as we'll have to leave 2-3 days before then in order to make it there in time. :thumbsup

Are you guys going to go through Iowa on I-80, If you are theres a few of us in Davenport, (right on the Iowa/Illinois border) that could catch you guys as you cruise through.

I'm pretty sure that's gonna be a little far north for us man. I've got our route posted in here in another thread, but we're pretty much making a bee-line from St Louis to Chicago (by way of Normal). I guess we'll meet up with you guys in Chi-town then, on Thursday afternoon imo. :thumbsup

Eclipse is still stored. As of right now the oil burning problem is the cheesy turbo. I should have something nice under the hood to show off at the shoot-out :afro

|
1195, RE: The official Chicago Caravan post Posted by XtremeRS, Jul-11-04 08:51 AM
I need to get hold of Jason, but I'm thinking we will meet up at that same exit off of the Ohio Turnpike in Toledo. There will be 4 or 5 of us guys coming down from Michigan, and Toledo is right on the way for us, and also the guys coming in from the West. Would like to meet up on Friday afternoon, early afternoon hopefully. We will meet up there, and hang out a bit, get food, whatever, then take the caravan off to Norwalk, wich is only a little over an hour away from Toledo. That was fun last year, its mostly 3 lanes wide all the way there :) Hint: nice chance for some good video shots!
|
1198, RE: The official Chicago Caravan post Posted by 2hot97GS, Jul-11-04 07:30 PM
you all better hope my shit is tuned by then.. i shoot raw fuel on peoples windshields right now on the highway... lol :shrug

Well, I don't know if I'll have a open seat in my car or not. I have no idea what class I'll run so i don't even know if I'll have the rest of my interior or not.
Bracket class and DSM DSM Eliminator class can run with removed interior right?

Have you Chicago guys worked out an alternative route in the Chicago area to avoid the traffic hold-ups this year. Last year, we met at about noon. I think we should shoot for an earlier time this year. Say 10am-10:30am.
It's about a 3 hour drive from Springfield to a good meet point at I80 from I55.
From that point, we can get a good time to meet up with the Matts fom Michigan. IIRC, we sat in traffic at least an hour or so last year on I80 just heading to Ohio.
|
1314, RE: The official Chicago Caravan post Posted by 2hot97GS, Jul-16-04 10:41 PM
well we take 80 the whole way.. so we either take 294 to 80/94 or we just take 80... you choose.. same problem... the traffic was where 80 meets 294.. unnavoidable imo

So we're looking to leave the Chicagoland area about 10-1030 on Friday?
Also, I believe SilverNT had offered a room to me when get there Thursday evening. I'm going to have (at this point) turbo8u, skrilla, and TwinDragons with me. Can I get anyone to offer a room to these fine fellas? Maybe Scott with me at Chris's place and Josh & Josiah somewhere else? After 2 days on the road, we're gonna want a place to crash imo. TIA>

1346, RE: The official Chicago Caravan post Posted by XtremeRS, Jul-20-04 07:27 AM
Yeah you westerners need to figure out when you are leaving chi town, so I can figure out when the MI caravan needs to get on the way to the meet up in Toledo...Oh yeah dont forget once you get into part of Indiana, the time zone changes and you gain one hour!

1443, RE: The official Chicago Caravan post Posted by HRC, Jul-26-04 12:57 PM
Is there room for a pickup truck 'n trailer in this caravan? I'd drive the RS there and back, but something about being 300 miles from home and pouring the coals to her on the track makes me a tad uncomfortable without the rig!

Glad you decided in favor of making the trip.
I guess with three weeks we should nail down the meeting place. I don't think the gas station/McDonald will work this year.

Haha ... I don't even know. I think it's at the same McDonalds (in Joilet I think) we met at last year but it looks like we will be double count this year and I doubt that little area can support every car there especially if Bill is there with the trailer.
Someone local will need to find a much more open area for us to meet up at. I also think that we will be meeting at an earlier time as well. Mostly so that we can be in Norwalk at an earlier time and so that those of us racing on Friday night have some time to get setup for the track.
