1003, OFFICIAL AZ ROUTE (DR & UBER) - support? Posted by DR1665, May-23-04 12:58 PM
Okay. Here is the route we're taking to Chicago. Obviously, this could still change at the last minute, but we're pretty set in this route for now. I figure since he and I are coming farther than anyone else (except maybe Skrilla and Blizare), it's a good idea to let everyone know just where we're going to be going.
LEG 1 Phoenix, AZ -> Flagstaff, AZ Interstate 17N
LEG Flagstaff, AZ -> Gallup, NM -> Albuquerque, NM -> Tucumcari, NM Interstate 40E
LEG 3 Tucumcari, NM -> Dalhart, TX -> Guymon, OK -> Liberal, KS - Wichita, KS Interstate 40E -> US HWY 54 (saves over 100mi versus going to OKC)
LEG 4 Wichita, KS - Kansas City, KS/MO Interstate 35N (fuck a bunch of toll on the KTA) -> Interstate 70E
LEG 5 Kansas City, KS/MO -> St Louis, MO Interstate 70E
LEG 6a St Louis, MO - > Normal, IL (stopping for a picure imo) Insterstate 55N
LEG 6b Normal, IL -> Chicago, IL Interstate 55N
Each leg is NOT an individual day of driving, but I tried to break it up by where we make major changes of course. If you are along any of these routes and planning on going to SO with us, please drop me a PM or email to let me know. I'd like to get a couple people's phone numbers along the way so we can call and let you know about what time we can meet up and roll with as little down time as possible. Even if you're not going, it would be nice to have someone's number just in case all hell broke loose and Daisy decided to go "true DSM" on us and strand us in the middle of nowhere. :P
As for the exact dates we're going to be driving, it all depends on when the Chicago caravan is rolling out. I'm thinking they're rolling on Friday AM, so we will pace ourselves to get to Chi-town byt sometime Thursday. Assuming those plans, Chris and I will be leaving Phoenix on Tuesday (very early too, I might add) since it's about 18hours non-stop to Wichita. Then, I'm thinking we'll try to make it to at least St Louis the second day, and so into Chicago by Thursday sometime.
Right now Chris and I are planning on rolling non-stop from Phoenix to Wichita, where we will be crashing at HighOnPSI's place. Party at Jon's imo! Wo0t! This could change too, since this will be the first he's heard of these plans as well. ;)
After that, I think it depends on how many and who we have rolling with us out of ICT. That will determine how far/long we can all go before we cumulatively need a place to crash (somewhere between St Louis and Normal, I'm thinking) or we will be sitting on the off ramps with the truckers with the parking lights on catching some ZZzzzZZZs imo.
Ideally, I'd like to get into Chicago earlier than later so we can all maybe relax a bit after such a long drive and be ready to roll out in force 2GNT stylee the next AM. I'm thinking Chicago is going to be where pretty much everyone west of the Mississippi meets for the last day on the road.
So those are our plans. I wanted to get this info out there so that others could see it. If you won't know until the last minute, that's cool. Just get me your number and Chris or myself will be calling you when we're about 100 miles out or something to make sure we don't miss anyone.
Now the only question is, Skrilla! You rolling into AZ to head that way with us? Or are you heading up north to make the drive with brotha turby? Let us know guys. :thumbsup
/end longest SO post so far....

Skrilla and turby, let me know which way you are goin' too...if you arent' going to pass through Denver or Cheyenne, I'm most likely not going to make a 21 hour drive all by myself...let me know guys. Dri665, I'd meet you guys in KC, but I'm not planning on leaving that early right now.

UPDATE STYLEE:
In talking to Josh, it looks like he and Skrilla will be rolling into Phoenix to roll with Uber and I since Josh has postponed his Wyotech admission. Working my way backwards here fellas...
If the Chicago caravan is leaving for Norwalk that Friday AM, I think we would want to get into Chicago by maybe 3 in the afternoon Thursday so we could hang out with the guys, maybe get a couple little rattles and shit fixed before the last leg and hit up a car wash. Then I'm thinking that after a couple days on the road at that point, we might crash while they get their shit packed up and be ready to rock the next morning.
So...
Mapquest says it's just over 11hours from Wichita, KS to Chicago, so I think we want to get out of Wichita way early to pull the non-stop action and still get to Chi-town in time for dinner and all that.
The long leg of the trip is Phoenix to Wichita. Almost 18 hours non-stop, but I think we can do it no problem in 2 cars with 4 drivers. Just do the rotation action imo.
What does this info mean to you? Maybe nothing, but basically we need to leave Wichita Thursday, and leave Phoenix way early on Wednesday. So I'm thinking Josh and Skrills, you guys would maybe want to come into Phoenix and crash in town the day before? You guys let me know.
So this is the route and the dates as of this date. I don't know why it would change other than us taking i40 all the way to i35 in Oklahoma City. It's more than 100 miles longer than the leg on US54 I posted above, but it could save us some time. I dunno. Otherwise, this is it fellas. Unless something happens to Josh and Josiah, the four of us are getting into Wichita on Wednesday night, and then getting into Chicago Thursday night. We'll see all the rest of you bishes along the way or in Ohio. :thumbsup
