just wondering cause im about to replace my axles with some better ones. everything else in the engine compartment has been upgraded.. lsd, motor mounts, plenty of hp.. etc.. i snapped an axle this last weekend... so.. when do i have to start worrying about the tranny?

James, im just gonna copy and paste what I just wrote on the other site: Spoke to Foward Motion inc. Basically , the neon transmission would work in our cars, just would have to specify what gear ratio (3.94, or 3.55). A rebuilt 3.55 transmission for example, would be $500 without core, $750 with Core. Theyre in Delaware. Also, at that point, they would reccomend doing the center diff pin mod, and installing the Quaife differential anyway; anything above 350 whp is not worth the time and money of installing a phantom grip or newskool racing lsd in their opinion. They sell race transmissions, but they are the 3 speed automatic ones with torque convertor. These can hold mega amounts of hp, which is why the neon guys usually go this route. OR you can get an SRT- 4 Transmission (if youre going the 2.4L rebuilt route). This is because of the low end midrange power the 2.4L setup brings which would be a better match for the SRT-4 tranny, as opposed to the high end power a 2.0L or 2.2L rebuilt engine would make. then you'd have to pay like $2400 and get custom made axles, prolly from Drivshaftshop.com In their opinion, the SRT-4 tranny is unbreakable.

does the srt-4 have the NV-T750? i think i remember a post a while back where someone had talked to the people at new venture gear. they were saying that the T750 or T850 would be an upgrade for us. i don't really remember which one

Not sure, didn't ask that one; but we only spoke about the SRT-4 tranny idea if one were to have a 2.4L engine. Otherwise, he didnt recommend it for 2.0L/2.2L because of the milder gear ratio setup. I emailed New Venture Gear, and they said they dont do work on our cars. So I looked into Foward Motion Inc.

I was only interested in the first place because Motofool said with 3.55 tranny, you can go 80mph in 5th at 2800rpms. :-)

To answer your question, i'm at 225 whp, which is around 350 at the fly according to the dyno guys.. and i've got 35k miles on the stock trani.. no issues.

ah, so the srt tranny IS boltable if we go 2.4 L? interesting... anyone else have comments on that?

Well our trannys bolt to the 2.4L engine. So I would assume that if ours will bolt to a 2.4 then the reverse would also be true. So if the SRT tranny bolts to a 2.4L then it will bolt to yours.
new venture gear made our trannys, right? How could they say they don't work on them? Also milder gears may be good, depending on what your setup is.

i don't know man, kinda hard to believe that you lost 125 HP through the drivetrain. ??? I'd assume you're closer to 260-275 at the crank. But hey, I'm not your "dyno guy"

Yeah, figure about 15% drivetrain loss on our manual trans. The only true way to figure it out is to dyno both on an engine dyno, and then on a chassis dyno. If you put down 225 at the wheels, its around 260-270 HP at the crank...I dont know where they came up with 350 CHP.. Oh, and our trannies can take shit loads of power. At least 400 crank HP..I really dont know an exact figure on how much..Hahn ran 11's on it, so that says something..I'd be more concerned with the strenght of the stock axles, and flexplate, before the actual trans.
