8811, no start after m/t swap
Posted by Slimyjr., Jun-21-11 10:28 PM
I did a a/t to m/t swap to a 99 gs. Followed all the instructions via corbin's writeup. Currently, it will not crank at all. Cant even hear the solenoid on the starter. I wired in the clutch safety switch exactly as the write up said but still no start. I couldn't get the starter to work even if i grounded it directly to the battery even though in a bench test it worked. Any ideas any of you could have me look into so i figure this out would be great. I don't know if it matters, but i used a 98 ecu in the swap, couldn't find a 99 manual one and this one plugged in.

Your starter is grounded by bolting it to the bellhousing. Curious why you grounded it to the battery? Sounds like you need to troubleshoot the electrical if the relay is not clicking. Bust out a multimeter and start tracing the circuits.

Well the black/yellow wire going to the solenoid is a ground isn't it? The starter is getting power, so i ran a jumper from the neg on the batt. to the neg post on the solenoid so i knew it was being grounded.

Nevermind your right code4. I dont know what i was thinking lol. Ended up being that the clutch safety switch is broken, which why my wiring wasnt grounding the relay.

The black/yellow wire to the solenoid is +12 volt feed from the starter relay. Refer to the Service Manual wiring diagram for wiring colors and such.
