8430, Clutch change - What the heck is this?? Posted by Ebster1085, Mar-19-10 06:20 PM
Hey guys,
So while changing the clutch today, I was removing the pressure plate and friction plate (I run a non-modular setup) and from behind the friction plate this weird little plastic part fell out. Its all heat warped and chewed up, and I don't know it is:

I have a feeling I may not have to get a new one as I don't see a purpose for this thing. Anyone know what this is and if I will have to replace it?

Hmm...by looking at it, I (with size and shape) I want to say it is part of an old throw out bearing that doesn't apply here. You say you found it between the clutch disc and the flywheel? Lol, well you must have put it there.......so what is it?

This is the first time I am doing the clutch. I had a mechanic do the last one, so I have no idea what this thing is.
It's smaller than a TO bearing, and since it was between the friction plate and flywheel, I don't think it's TO bearing related.
It almost looks like its some sort of spacer or plug meant to fit in the small orifice in the middle of the Fidanza aluminum flywheel. What the point of such a part is, I don't know.
I guess I'll just chalk it up as a typical mechanic error and continue the install without it.

I have the fidanza Flywheel Non Mod setup and I dont have one of those....if that helps you.
I didnt buy it new so i dont know if that comes as a packaging plug for the center of the flywheel ect.

Ya know what Terry, I bet you are right. Its probably some sort of packaging plug that the mechanic failed to remove before installing the flywheel. I really cant see any real purpose for it, so its going in the trash.
Thanks guys!
