7727, What Clutch?! HELP! Posted by Babbz413, Mar-18-09 03:47 PM
hey all! This is my first post and I come to you guys because i share the same love as you all being as i have a silver 95 gs eclipse. Its a 420a 5 speed with a t3 setup.
Only work on this car i have done under the hood is the turbo. well about 2 weekends ago my flywheel busted off my crankshaft and blew through the housing. it was disgusting. Money is tight in this country we live in these days so im trying to get this done myself. I was able to find a 5 speed tranny that was taken off a 420a chrysler motor with 0 miles. (not sure what year)
Will this tranny bolt right on?
Secondly, now i need a clutch and flywheel assembly. Im unsure on what exactly im looking for. Just to get an idea i got to ebay and search eclipse clutch (95-99)...and all different ones are coming up (obviously) leaving me unsure on what is compatible with mine with minimal modifications. I dont want to purchase one to find out its wrong.
Any help with this would be great.

most clutches come with the flywheel because our cars came with a "modular" clutch from the factory. the clutch and flywheel assembly are pre-riveted together from the factory.
if you switch to a non-modular setup, don't buy the flywheel on ebay. they're usually cheap chinese crap that will crack and warp almost immediately.

F1 clutch all the way. I have one in my car. The pedal is so soft you will think something is wrong, but it grabs like a motherfucker. I recommend breaking it in, but I started mine up, went down the block, took it up to 5k and dumped the clutch and no slip whatsoever. Surprised me for not even being broken in yet. If I ever replace the clutch again it will be with the same one.

thanks for the help! now back to the tranny scenario. does the year of the tranny affect anything? i was lucky to find a 5 speed tranny with 0 miles that was hooked up to a chrysler 420a motor just for simple testing. im just unsure on what year it is. the clutch lever matches so its an exact match to my blown up one. will this bolt right on? or will i need to get other things to make it compatible?

All the years are the same. The only thing that might be different is some shift arms on the later years have weights on the end of them.

They are not all the same. You may have a Neon tranny. Check the numbers on it if you can. Here's a list of tranny info;

If it was a true Mitsubishi application, they would be all the same.
