i bought a 98 gs and 4th gear went and then the housing busted... i found a neon trans (nv-t350) but its cable, i first bought it with the intentions of just swapping bellhousing's but my hydro bellhousing is in pieces, my question is can i use the cable trans in my car... i kno the neons are similar but can i use the peddles and clutch cable?

do a search for 3.55 transmission there are writeups on how to do it. if your car is stock it'll really seem boggy but if you've done some serious performance upgrades the extra top end is very nice.

i did alot of research on the 3.55 but its really that the trans was cheap and close... i cant change bellhousings because mines busted

you're gonna have to suck it up and get the proper bellhousing. the cable bellhousing won't work.

I don't know of anyone that has tried swapping to the cable pedal assembly. if you tried it, you'd be the first.

it would be massively annoying to say the least, there's not much room in that section of the firewall to work in.

It's not that bad. There is plenty of room to work there. You just need to have some patience.

yea i was also thinkin of making a mechninism to keep all the hydro system and make somthing to activate the clutch... somethin that i would use the slave cylinder and it push somthin that would pull the cable.. im going to run this by my g-pa who was a engineer and see if this is really just overengineering somthin.. but like my dad says if you got more time then money lol... i need to go to the local junk yard and just look and see what the pedal assembly looks like out of a neon

Ditto. Just buy a bellhousing. Or a Neon.

Check the forsale section, I'd bet someone is parting out a car that could get you a bellhousing for cheaper.

Nevermind. you want to spend more time fiddling with an idea that will just waste time rather than find a bellhousing, go for it.

if i could find one i would just get it i just dont have time to be a engineer lol... anyone got a trans?.. il do some trading with the neon 3.55 trans i have just for a complete good stock trans and il add money or just buy a bellhousing

with your post count as it is you can't make a WTB post in the sale forums but I'd bet you could look through them and find one of the guys parting out a car and send them a PM for the bellhousing or the whole trans.

if I had an extra trans I'd swap with you but trannies aren't in my bins of spares.

i found a trans today local for dirt cheap.. he said it was a neon trans but its hydrolic so im figuring 01-up ether way its in my price range

Whats weird is that Neon guys want the 3.94 and Eclipse guys want the 3.55 :)

A good idea, possibly what I may do, is find a Neon guy looking for a 3.94, then swap both at the same time.

Should be easy to find IMO.
