6949, Transmission on 420a making scratching noises but not always HELP

Hi I have a small transmission issue. When its cold outside and I have not driven my car all night, and I start it up , it sounds like theres gravel in the transmission. It makes a horrible scratching noise. I tried to pinpoint it but it does it when its OUT of gear just a little but not alot. If I put it in gear and drive before its warmed up a good 10 min it does it really loud for the next couple miles, then mysteriously dissapears!! I have tried to take it to a mechanic shop and it quit doing it before I got there and then I tried to leave it with them and I looked really dumb because the symptom wasnted repeated the following morning!! Help

When you push in the clutch.. it stops.

Same as mine, i believe that its your throw out bearing. Mines the same way. exactly the same! 30 bucks for a good fix.

10 bucks? thats not bad.. a local clutch and driveshaft shop in town sells them for 30. But then again, its right there.

Also, did that have the plastic clips that hold it to the fork? my buddy and i are wondering if there are any metal ones? and why are they plastic? sheesh.

Well, i was going to say input shaft bearing. What gears does it make this noise in?

I dont know what went in my car but when i pulled the transmission last week, the fingers on my clutchpack were a reddish color like they were hot as fuck and the oe tob had the same reddish crap in the grease on it. Who cares. The trans had one foot in the grave anyway.

It first started doing the "scratching, squeeling" noise in first and second. Then it moved on to reverse and eventually, the entire gearbox sounded like shit. The car didn't want to go into second sometimes and then it wanted to pop out of fifth gear all the time for no reason.

We later found out the reason was the transmission was almost bone dry. We think the culprit was the axle seal.

Two things i would do is flush the tranny and replace the tob.

Good to know.

Both the ones i have have plastic tabs.

Might be the reason they chatter....b/c they're not oem units.

Lose.

every one I've had my hands on, OEM or not, had plastic break-if-you-look-at-it-wrong tabs. I really need to change mine cause a tab broke off and it causes a funny click when I release the clutch.

stupid throw out bearings

stupid flanders.
