I live in Canada, have a GS Eclipse from the states (manual transmission). When I bought it, the speedo would work sometimes (most times it read 0), and when it did work, it was stupid... at 80km/h, it would tell me I was doing 80 mph. Roughly.

That tranny died on me, and a couple months ago I got a 1997 tranny, and a Bully Stage 1 clutch. The speedo reads a number all the time, but it is beyond wrong. If I am doing 80km/h (paced myself behind my friend's car), it is telling me I am doing 110mph. I've gotten used to driving without the speedo and just going by revs + gear, but it would be nice to have a properly working speedo (plus then passengers will stop whining about it thinking i'm doing 30km/h over the speed limit all the time).

So my question is: Is this a sensor problem? It's what I was thinking, but yet it seems unusual that both transmissions, the speedo read the wrong number. Is there anything else that may cause this, that I can look into? Any testing procedures would be helpful as well.

A bad connection at the sensor can cause that. So can a failing sensor.

Alright, thanks. I'll check the connection first, and then the sensor if that fails. Hopefully that fixes me up.
