Looking for a little help from the fun gallery.

I looked in CAPS for the seal for the input shaft. Came up with M04761090 (Input Shaft Bearing, CAPS 22005). Does that include the seal as one set-up?

Hi,

I have a 1997 RS N/T and a week ago I noticed that I was leaking some transmission fluid. So I asked a mechanic friend who said it looks like it is the Input shaft seal that is bad.

So he dropped my tranny and took apart the housing and he can't figure out how to get the seal out... I don't even think he could see it.

So he called me since he took it over to his place and told me that I might have to buy a whole new input shaft?? Since he doesn't know how to take it out should I just bring it to Mitsubishi and pay them to take the seal out or should I buy a new one like my friend mentioned??

Hmm. He's mechanically inclined? Or is he a mechanic? Replace the shaft because he can't figure out how to pull a seal? I'm leary on this but here's some info;

The seal is a complete press in unit with bearing. The Chrysler part number is 4761090 ( I find that its generally cheaper to buy Chrysler parts, not Mitsubishi. Same part though).

Have him read through this http://www.2gnt.com/index.php?d=3.55 to see how to pull the bell housing to access the input shaft bearing and seal. He will need a press to press it in and out (he should know this if he is a "mechanic"). Many people on here have done this themselves (I just have that "replace the input shft because I can't figure out how to do the seal" stuck in my mind. Doesn't really make sense. But maybe you misunderstood or something).

Also, may want to replace the axle seals while you got them out (Chrysler part number 4797334. You will need two).
