6469, Help with Output Shaft bearing
Posted by Collente, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Hey guys,

After some further research, it sounds like this could be my raping noise. There is little info in the past but it sounds like this plastic piece is what holds the bearings and likes to melt. It may have just finally failed at this opertune moment.

Does anyone know of any ways to troubleshoot this without pulling the bellhousing?
Would I possibly see anything from pulling the backplate and checking the shaft or the bearing there?

Anyone have a problem with this before, please let me know what you experienced.

Appreciate it.

If the plastic cage went, you'd see plastic debris built up under that cover.

Otherwise, there's no easy way to determine if that bearing failed short of removing the trans and opening the case.

Do you get this noise;

With the clutch disengaged and the car rolling?
with the clutch engaged and the engine under power?
with the clutch disengaged and the car stopped, engine idling?

if (1), it's the output shaft or diff.
if (2), it could be anything.
if (3), it's likely motor.
